How was your Palm Sunday Mass experience?

The title of this thread is funny.

Catholics complain about non-Catholic experience-based worship and here we go, discussing our own worship experience. :rolleyes: I just find it ironic.

I read the “Voice” in the passion and so had the distinct honor of denying Christ three times yesterday, and of trying to convince the crowd that Jesus was not guilty, that he should be flogged and released.

It was moving, to say the least, to hear 800 people yell “No, crucify him!” at me, and to kneel next to the priest and the deacon in the sanctuary and hear the bells toll.

We had a narrative reading with the priest at the altar as Jesus. Being a Catholic who has spent time with many other Christian groups I had a particular experience which almost sent me running up the aisle!! The priest gave a sermon that lasted about 3 minutes. He said that the people of Jesus’ time did not recognize Him. They did not see Him as the Savior. Then he said " Have you recognized Jesus as your Savior?" Who do you say He is? Although I have always believed Catholics are “Christian” and have accepted Jesus as their Savior (said at every Mass during the Creed) it was refreshing to hear the question stated so simply- Billy Graham might as well have been there. It made me smile!

The question comes straight from scripture.

When Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:13-16)

Many will spend their entire life avoiding that question. .

we had the had the Solemn Entrance and the priest wearing a red cope all glory laud and honor yours and passion reading I was very busy as i am the mc in my parish

It was very special. Some bonus excitement…two young couples sat in the pew ahead and the same pew as us…between the 2 couples they had 9 little children (the oldest one looked about 7-8 yrs. old). There was a lot of wiggling, but they were so good! I gave those parents lots of credit for their efforts!

My grandson was altar serving, and got sick in the middle of Mass…suddenly he disappeared into the room behind the altar and my daughter-in-law shot out after him. Never a dull moment!!!
 
We had a very beautiful Mass. My son, who is 8 and has autism, was confused by the changes in the order of mass, with everything involved in the Solemn Entrance: the extra Gospel reading, the blessing of the palms, etc. I could tell it made him anxious, but he handled it very well. He was enthusiastic about reminding those sitting around us that the Gloria and the Alleluia will be back next week - he’s really missed them this Lent.

This sort of reminds me when I was little and experienced Palm Sunday Mass for my first time. I was intrigued by it ever since. I always love how it started off triumphal and then ended off solemnly.
