Hi,

If one were to die and go to heaven how do you think God would look?

We are told that Jesus sits on Gods’ right hand. Would we see Jesus in his glorious body?

Would we just be aware of a glow and loving presence?

Would the three persons of the Trinity be visible?

There is no answer to this question but I would be interested in other’s ideas or thoughts.

Or am I the only one who thinks about this on occasion?

Thanks

Phyllo,

I’ve heard it said that at the time we are being judged God will take on the face of our worst enemy.

I love to read the theophanies in Scripture and envision them.
Isaiah 6:1-4
Ezekiel chapters 1 (espcially verses 26-28), and 8
Daniel 7:9-14
Revelation chapters 4, 5, 21, 22

What a great idea!👍

I should have thought of it. I just finished reading the verses. Thanks

I would think that my worst enemy would be Satan.

I was more interestrd in after I was judged and was lucky enough to get to heaven.

God Bless

Before the resurrection of the body, without any senses, God will not appear.

He will not be seen, heard, felt, etc.

Jesus is God, if you want to know how he will appear after the resurrection of the body, look in the mirror. He will appear human.

God would appear as a fat old man. I mean, all he does is sit around and tell people to do stuff all day. He makes Jesus do all of his dirty work.

Hi Evan,

Actually I think that Jesus’ resurrected and glorious body is what we will see in heaven but I am in no hurry to find out. I still have a lot of studying and learning and loving the Trinity and Mary to do yet.

With God I think His presence would be as real as if you were to encounter any physical being -nearly palpable-and yet the experience would be one that is direct-a knowledge given if you will-bypassing the senses. “glow and loving presence” would reflect this idea fairly well as long as that’s not thought of as quasi-real; the experience would be no less real to us than any other, but infinitely more powerful, in fact.

I asked a similar question the other day

I think of this too, in a way. What I wonder is, as an atheist, will God prove me wrong in the afterlife (if there is one) - will He give me the proof I want? Or leave me wondering forever and ever and ever…

By way of analogy…

I’m in my 40s and there are sounds my teenage daughter can hear that I cannot (typical adult hearing loss). There are things I can see than my 80-year-old aunt can’t - macular degeneration. In both cases, the reality is there but the viewer is limited in his/her ability to perceive it.

I think any “vision” of the divine would quickly swamp the senses - and indeed, I think our souls may be able to perceive more. It’s likely looking at the night sky - you see a smattering of stars but hardly the billions of galaxies…our eyes can only see so much and so far.

But our souls perceive many thing our physical senses cannot - love, trust, joy, hope, empathy, sympathy, etc.

Dunno, but I am hoping to walk with Him in the Garden in the cool of the day.

🙂

We can’t know what God will do but I THINK that He might show you the error of your ways and what you have given up and send you on your way.

Very insightful. Thanks.

To go a bit beyond that:
Itll be what the Church calls "The Beatific Vision". Instead of concepts of God, therell be raw Spirit-to-spirit contact between God and each soul and angel. Each soul and angel will also be aware of all of the other souls and angels; so it`ll be a perfect union of knowledge and love, centred in God, Himself.
“Thou hast made us for Thyself, Lord; and our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee.”: Saint Augustine of Hippo.

Each person`s intellect (along with the will) resides in the soul (spirit only: no matter): ideas will be replaced by Reality.

Remember, that God is"only" Spirit; so He can`t be seen with the physical senses.
Jesus has two natures: His divine nature as Son, and a human nature. “Seated at the right hand of the Father” is metaphorical in any physical sense.

Shut up, before it becomes a sermon!!! 😦
