I have a hypothetical situation which is really bugging me regarding human cloning.

So you know how Dolly the sheep was cloned in secrecy and then announced to the world? Well what if the same thing were to happen today but this time instead of sheep, it were humans?

How would the Church respond?

Would that person still have human dignity despite not being created by God?

Would God love that person?

Could they become Catholic?

What about their soul?

Would they even have a soul?

I’m very curious as to what’s the most likely outcome.

The cloned human would be the “twin” of the person the original cell was taken from, sharing the same biological parents. Still created by God, an individual with an immortal soul, from the moment the cell began to grow towards birth (however that was accomplished).

So the clone who resulted from this would not be called an abomination or anything? And they wouldn’t be morally responsible for their birth? This seems a lot like how the Church views someone conceived from rape. Which is kinda what I assumed it would be.

I think its time you met my pal Arnold. He’s a lovely guy and he would be absolutely upset if he found out that you questioned the existence of his soul.

Correct. Though, I’m sure some people would sinfully call the person an abomination - they the clone would not be an abomination. However, the process would be an abomination.

The real question is this: what would the purpose of human cloning be? I see NOTHING healthy or moral in reasons to clone a human.

Cloning endangered animal species could be a good thing and cloning animals for food could be a good thing… but there is not 1 moral / heathy reason to clone humans.

God Bless

My fear about human cloning is organ harvesting. I think there was a movie made about that relatively recently.

Yeah, there have been a few different movies regarding cloning for organ harvesting… it’s a scary thought

I don’t recall any recent movie about that, but I do recall the manga, Astra Lost in Space.

Well I have some news that might comfort you in that. There has been work done on growing organs on a scaffold of sorts which allow people in need of a new organ to basically receive their own organ. And as this process excludes use of cloning, it would become, in my opinion, common before people even started to debate the idea of organ clones like in The Island.

The article above says:
To produce a bladder, they remove a small piece of a patient’s organ and separate out muscle cells and …
So no, they don’t have to use cells from a human embryo. They have been quite successful using self donor cells.

i’m of the opinion God ISN’T OBLIGATED to provide a human soul
for a cloned human body. So then what’cha got ? I dunno
