In Romano Guardini’s The Rosary of Our Lady, he says, “We always need faith, and the more the longer we live. The more life broadens, the more faith we need, because we learn more of how impenetrable human existence is. So we ask the Lord that He may ‘increase our faith.’”

What does he mean that we need more faith the longer we live “because we learn more of how impenetrable human existence is”? Why would learning more about human existence be problematic for faith?

I think what he’s trying to say is that we understand very little about ourselves and everything that influences us eg God etc. And the more we learn, the more we realise how little we know. And , so we need more faith to accept what we don’t know or fully understand.
We believe many things that we can’t see, touch and understand.
