I was there in 1968, in the middle of the Sexual Revolution. It did not cross my mind then that Catholics should abandon the right and proper approach to human sexuality. Friendship, dating, going steady, courtship, engagement, and, if all was still well, marriage. I knew many married adults who were happy and productive, but there was a problem - manufacturers of The Pill had to move product.

I heard outsiders tell us that Catholics are “sexually repressed.” What did that mean? We got married and had kids. Surely, sexual activity occurred. I later realized that they wanted us to be like them. Go ahead, they said, have sex with your girlfriend as long as you ‘love’ each other. Apparently, commitment was not important. Or, they said, why not just move in together?

Most of the problems in Western culture today revolve around disordered ideas of human sexuality. Artificial birth control, abortion, cohabitation with sex, same sex marriage, in-vitro fertilization and even embryonic stem cell research. And disordered ideas about marriage and commitment, assisted by No-Fault Divorce.

Fortunately, that is starting to change.

I am reading the book “A Return to Modesty”. Although not written by a Catholic, I think it is very illuminating about the harm done by the sexual revolution.
 
having lived through this era as well, secular college bringing in birth control speakers, Catholic pre-Cana pushing the truth, split in the Christian Family Movement over HV, the bishops and priest lining up on either side of HV, sharing the names and locations of priests who would absolve you for using ABC or even getting your tubes tied, all of it

the fallout is not from HV, it is because Catholics ignored HV and in my generation at least we are just finding out how right the pope was. Marriages in my cohort are shattering because they were held together by sex, not intimacy, because we were the first generation to embrace ABC in a big way. Now we no better–the Pill kills–embryos, intimacy, and marriages.

The fallout from HV was the way it was opposed by theologians and how the dreaded Establishment, the New York Times, got into the act. In the 1960s, Christian morality was respected and reflected in the media. There was a greater trust for experts and people in the government.

Too many Catholics, thinking that what they were hearing was somehow OK because experts told them so were also distracted by the Peace! Free Love! Sex with anyone Hippies.

“You gotta be free, man. Can’t have nobody tellin’ you what ta do. Ya know? If it feels good, do it.”

“Here. Smoke some dope, man. It’ll expand your mind.”

Perhaps one of the things the article omits to mention was at the time, things were reaching toward a hysterical peak concering over-population. This only added gasoline to the flames that ABC, Relativism and the Sexual Revolution were already feeding.

This article appears to be the transcript of her talk by the same name; actually, I think it is the second version of the talk. Her first version, if you can find it, is also well worth while.

The CD can be bought from One More Soul (I bought both versions there, althought I don’t know if the first verision is still available).
