Hi friends,
All of Manking are created in the “image and likenes of God” [Gen. 1:26-27]
It is our minds, intellects and FREEWILL that come closest to this reality.
John.4: 23-24 “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for such the Father seeks to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Our Minds, intellects and FREEWILL are connected to our Soul?
These are SPIRITUAL GIFTS that mimic God’s ?
Can Humanity alone LOVE?
WHY did God create us in this precise manner?
I would point you back to the Genesis 1:27 which you cited.
God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27)
The divine image… male and female. It’s not my words but Gods. Of all the things to note about the first people, hair color, fat, short, tall, skinny, creativity, mind, intellect, reason and freewill inclusive, God tells us that they were man and woman, masculine and feminine,
naked and without shame. The geneology of Adam, again, out of all thing things to mention, mentions male and female…
This is the record of the descendants of Adam. When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God; he created them male and female. (Genesis 5:1-2)
Jesus goes there too…
He said in reply, "Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’ (Matthew 19:4)
Not, “Have you not read that from the beginning the creator gave them freewill?” Our right to choose, to determine our own course and chart our own life, is part of American culture. It is at the center of who Americans are and what America is, and I’m not saying that is bad but I am saying that we focus on it too much. What I will come out and say, and this is my opinion, that I don’t think our freewill is the clearest refelction of the reality of God.
Now before anyone hits the reply button in haste, a man with far greater insight and intellect than I dedicated the first 129 general audiences of his papacy to this exact topic. His question was,
what does it mean to be man made in the likeness of God? And the answers he came up with are part of the reason why he is a saint.
the body, and it alone, is capable of making visible what is invisible: the spiritual and the divine. It was created to transfer into the visible reality of the world, the mystery hidden since time immemorial in God, and thus to be a sign of it."
Some thing to think about as you google, “Theology of the Body”.
