Husband will not go

He’s going!!! Not this Sunday but next Sunday!! I am so happy! HE has been sick this week and wants to wait till next week. He had to go to the hospital and get some tests done and has to have more done next week but not the same kind. Keep praying!! He was so nice about telling me he would go next week. He is definately not the type to say “I will next week” and then not do it. He will go or he would NOT have told me he would. Thank you all for your prayers!! I am so happy!!

My teen daughter and I want to convert to Catholic. We are now Baptist and have attended church our entire lives. We have attened Mass several times with a friend and we love everything about the Catholic faith. Problem: My husband is baptist also but does not attend church. He does not want to convert simply because he does not want to go. Question: I know the Catholic faith wants the entire family, but…will they accept my daughter and I without him? I have searched for an answer to this question and can not find a clear answer. I do not want to ask the Priest at the services we attended because I don’t really know him.

Of course! Coming into full communion with the Catholic Church is an individual choice. You and your daughter can do so without your husband.

I am presuming that there are no prior marriages for either you or your husband. Is that the case?

So my message came in loud and clear . The main reason I emphasized that is some of your questions really can only be answered after an interview with your local Priest! I didn’t want you to get confused by some of our answers because sometimes we all get so excited and we start to assume others know something we do and we exclude a little piece of information - that is why I suggested you just keep asking too! A good place is the Ask an Apologist (AAA) forum where there is no discussion, just answers, Reginald Plum gives sources so you have to do the main work, Michelle Arnold will sometimes do that or give you an answer and Fr. Vincent Serpa, well he almost always answers the question while he might add a source for further information.

Keep trying, some Parishes are small enough that they don’t have a full time secretary/receptionist and/or don’t have someone cover for that person when he/she is on vacation!

Now, if you still can’t get a hold of anyone say, once school starts - September at the latest, then you need to screw up your courage (let us know, we will pray for you) and talk to the Priest after Mass! I have to tell you that I am a Cradle Catholic who grew up with Priests (Chaplains for the Air Force) running in and out of my house in their cutoffs grabbing a beer to join us in the back yard after a day of fishing and yet I am really shy and have a hard time talking to the Priest after Mass!

Persistence will get you what you need.
