I am seriously considering converting to Catholicism but am unsure of something. My husband is not Catholic & does not wish to convert at this time. He was previously married & divorced but since we were not Catholic, his marriage was not annulled. Would that be a problem when it comes to my conversion?

Maybe, in the sense that he might have to obtain an anullment. But why don’t you go see a priest or check out the inquirer’s class (pre-RCIA) first and ask then? 🙂

Thanks for your reply. I did my pre-RCIA interview last month but did not think to ask. It came up while doing my endless search for answers & now I’m worried that this may be a problem. I’ll have to call my local parish & ask. Thanks again! 🙂

From what I understand, the Church recognizes almost all marriage as being valid. You should NOT take my word for this, however, but submit it to your priest or to Father Serpa here on the board. But I think that his first marriage would be considered valid, you and he would need to have that marriage annulled and then be remarried in the Church.

Find out from an expert, ok? Don’t rely upon us though some of us are very knowledgeable.

GOOD LUCK and you are in my prayers!😉
