Today my daughter who is 13 wondered what Hydrox cookies were.

She heard them mentioned in an older tv show. I remember them, but I don’t think they sell them any more. They were the original chocolate cookie sandwich. I think I liked them better, but the name was a bit odd for a cookie.

YEs, the middle was not so fake tasting. I have found that the Duplex cookies sold at many stores by off brands are fairly similar, but they are half vanilla and half chocolate.

Thanks! I wonder if they are the same maker.

I remember Hydrox and kids would say they were knock off Oreos.
I’m reading that they weren’t as sweet as Oreos. I wonder if that’s what my mom would buy when I was a kid. I feel Oreos don’t taste the same as I remember, but maybe I was eating Hydrox

I read this article some months back which goes into a bit of the history:

I had never realized that they actually preceded Oreos to the marketplace. I had always assumed they were a much later knock-off. I always liked Oreos better myself. I had an uncle that worked for Nabisco for many years, so buying other brands of cookies was a no-no when I was growing up. 😝 We did make an exception for Cheese-Its, though. Way better than Nabisco’s Cheese Nips.

I read the same article! The name. They sound too chemically.

I actually preferred Hydrox to Oreos.

I agree in that they weren’t as sweet as Oreos.

I still like Oreos though, and I won’t pass those up, either.

When I was younger, a friend of mine used to eat Hydrox cookies, and then got me into eating them and I was hooked on them since then. I hadn’t seen them around for a long time and when I would find them, I would buy them. 🙂

I liked them as a kid. When I would eat one, I would say, “Hydrox - bye drox”. 🤣

I know they’ve come back on the market, I keep forgetting to look for them at the store.

Every time I see the title of this thread in my feed, I see the word ‘Hydrox’ and I immediately think ‘prescription drug’. That’s what it sounds like to me. Or some over the counter herbal concoction or something.

I’d love to see an original ingredients list for that cookie.

I understand that they were always considered Kosher, so at least we know there were no animal fats.

I’m pretty easy to please! 🙂 😉

I love the Duplex sandwich cookies, too. In fact, there probably isn’t any kind of a sandwich cookie that I don’t like! 😋

I’m a dunker, so the duplex cookies are great for dunking in milk or coffee.

I remember them from when I was a kid. They were Sunshine Hydrox, by the Sunshine baking company. Possibly the company went out of business or was sold, and the new buyer didn’t retain the manufacturing of Hydrox because the competition from Nabisco was overwhelming. I actually remember liking Hydrox better because the Oreo filling was more bland and tasted like margarine was the main ingredient. Hydrox was better for dunking in cold milk.

OOOO! From the site you referenced:

Now Available!! Ask your local grocer to carry Hydrox®.
How did Leaf® bring back Hydrox® Cookies?

After we acquired Hydrox® in 2015, we rolled back the formula to GET RID of the high fructose corn syrup, replacing it with REAL cane sugar and removed the hydrogenated oils as well. In addition, as of February 2017, we also wanted to create a ‘cleaner label’ for our customers so we got rid of all artificial flavors and GMOs so Hydrox is now non-GMO as well! You can enjoy ‘America’s original sandwich cookie’, Hydrox® made in the USA and know what’s in it. We’re kinda proud of that!

Thanks Father!!! :milk_glass:

I looked yesterday on Amazon, and was only able to find one vendor who had a case. Hopefully my supermarket will carry them soon.

According to their Facebook page, Kroger carries them. I’ll have to check the next time I go Krogering.

I remember them as well .However don’t recall having eaten one.Re Oreos never cared for them waaaay to sweet. If I were to eat one I always took them apart and just ate the chocolate cookie part.😏
