Hymns to Mary inappropriate?

Unless it is a Marian Feast Day, my parish only sings Marian hymns as the recessional, when the Mass is technically over. Most of the congregation does stay to sing them, though (except for the people that always leave after Communion and are not there for the end of Mass 😦 ).
