Question if a person who has had 2 abortions take the lives of their own unborn (for whatever reason even) stain their soul walked in a Right to Life march would they be a hypocrite? Granted I know this seems to smack of an opinion question I am looking for more a biblical take on it and all.

You don’t need scripture to tell you just common sense - if the person still believes abortion is ok and walks in a pro-life march they are a hypocrite. I don’t know if hypocrite is the right word but it is someone who is obviously very confused because why would someone pro abortion walk in a pro-life march? Its an oxymoron choice it makes no sense. But hopefully the truth might come to them about abortion by participating .

Could it be that this is someone who has repented and come to know that abortion is wrong?

If they think that their situation was “different” or justified some way, and still consider themselves pro-life, yes, that would make them a hypocrite.

If they had the abortions, repented, and now see the error of their ways, no, they are as welcome there as anyone else.

Why would you think that? The person might have repented. Judge not… (Luke 6:37)

It would depend what the person believed regarding abortion. It they believe abortion is wrong–they would not be a hypocrite. If they believe that abortion is just fine and dandy–then they would be a hypocrite because by walking the march they would be indicating that they believe something that they do not.

If we are honest with ourselves–we will admit that we at times do things that are wrong and that we know we shouldn’t do–in other words we commit sin. That doesn’t make us hypocrites–it just makes us weak humans who at times fail to live up to what we believe. The hypocrite is one who doesn’t really believe what they profess to–one who pretends to be something they are not.

The peace of Christ,
Mark

I don’t think you’re going to find a simple Biblical answer to this (although Matthew 7:1 might be appropriate: “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get.”)

We cannot know what is in the heart and soul and mind of a person. Perhaps we would do best to assume that a person walking in a Right to Life march is sincere, no matter what their past.

Was Dorothy Day, who had an abortion early in her life, a hypocrite? I can’t imagine that anyone, or at least any Catholic, would say that she was.

If an abortion doctor who performed 100s of abortions walked in a Right to Life March would he be a hypocrite? :nope:

If the plaintiff in the infamous Row V Wade US Supreme Court decision and who once worked in an abortion clinic walked in a Right to Life March would she be a hypocrite? :nope:

If a person wants to judge another person’s life by their worst sins regardless of how they may have repented and changed - in perpetuity - and they walked in a Right to Life March would they be a hypocrite? most likely - :sad_yes: though I hope and pray that they, too have a conversion of the heart …

We are a people of forgiveness and second chances … is this not what we are taught … How many times must I forgive my brethren - 7 times? No, its 70 times 7!

Just as a point I was not saying the person is a hypocrite, was just asking if they would come across as one was all. That’s all… and thank you for all the responses. 👍
