Hi,

I am afraid we are coming to the end of time and I always am afraid. I have alot of fear but little love in my heart. Also, I have been questioning my faith alot recently. I also see evil wherever I look. I see what looks like evil spirits in the clouds and in paintings etcetera. This happens alot. I want to Love god and have faith in him and not be afraid but I just cannot seem to get rid of the fear. I used to be a huge sinner and am afraid its too late for me and I think sometimes that I am doomed. Please give me suggestions and pray for me. Thanks.

I am sorry you are having these fears. You are being tested I think. I find going to confession and spending time in front of the Blessed Sacrament helps rid these feelings of darkness and hopelessness.

You will be in my prayers, keep the faith, God is with you always.

Fear not, simply have faith in the Lord. The world could have ended long ago but it has not. We do not know the day or the hour and we really don’t need to worry about. If you are sorry for your past sins and are repentent God has forgiven you. As a Catholic you, must of course, avail yourself of confession. The priest will reassure you of Christ’s forgiveness.

I too had serious sins in my past. Our loving and merciful Savior has promised that He will heal us. He has forgiven me and He will forgive you. Satan is the accuser. He first tempts us into sin and then gladly makes us feel guilty. Furthermore, he will attempt to make us think that God will not forgive us. We cannot depend on our feelings for they can easily betray us. We can only live by faith and we must place our complete trust and hope in the Lord.

Lastly, we must struggle to love the Lord our God with our whole heart, mind, and soul without reservation. We must open every door to our hearts and hold nothing back. If you are faced with an obstacle, ask the Lord to open your heart and mind to His will. Make your will congruent with that of the Lord. Pray always. What I mean by this is the following: Pray when you wake up from sleep. Pray whenever you start and end a task and do so with thanksgiving in your heart. Pray at every moment of transition during the day. All of these prayers take but a moment. All you need to do is turn your heart and mind toward the Lord.

Energize your prayer by going to the Church and praying before the Blessed Sacrament. If you can go to Exposition all the better. Doing this will help you better know the one you love.

I and others will pray for you.

Hi Stove, I’m sorry to hear about your trouble. I will certainly pray for you. You should pray the rosary. That has never failed to give me comfort and peace. It’s a wonderful prayer.🙂
Catherine

Thanks for the quick responses.
I goto confession at least once a month and say the rosary at least once a day. I also pray often and beg God to show me his will for me and beg for his forgiveness, protection, faith, release from my fears, an increase in love, etc. Still, I feel the way I do.

Going to confession once a month and saying the rosary - you are not doomed. Once you say sorry to God through the sacrament of confession and you are genuinely sorry which you seem to be, you are forgiven. 🙂 By saying the rosary, Our Lady will look after you. What mother doesn’t look after their child?!

No, I haven’t talked to anyone about it really.
Maybe you should - either to your confessor or some other trusted counsellor.

You may have a past, but so do we all, for the most part. Even the saints - Peter and Paul (the persecutor of the early Church), Augustine (talk about a real past - read his Confessions!).

There is no past which cannot be forgiven. Remember Christ saying ‘if your brother sins against you seven times in a day and seven times repents, you must forgive him seven times’. That’s how merciful he is to us when we sin against him.

Stove, I often think that it is hard to imagine God loves us if we don’t feel loved by people around us or don’t believe we are loved for some reason. I believe that if people do not feel the love of Jesus from other people they find it hard to truly believe in their hearts that God does love them. And then it is also hard to feel a loving relationship with God and with other people if we have not felt love in our lives. What happens in an absence of love is fear as love knows no fear.

God loves you Stove. He loves you so wrecklessly and passionately that should you have been the only creature He ever created He would still have become Incarnate in order to come to you and bring you to Himself by the work of His Cross and He would have done all of this for you alone, let alone anyone else. When Christ Jesus died the veil was torn and by the work of His Cross and Ressurection Christ Jesus opened the door so that men may freely approach God and God may freely approach men with no fear, but to be united in Love and Jesus is Love. No man is worthy except the God-Man; Jesus, but Christ Jesus wills it that in Him we are made worthy and so we have nothing to fear even as unworthy as we are.

This fear you experience is not something you should blame yourself for as it isn’t any of your fault, but it is something you might like to seek to remedy and I’d suggest you go and speak to your Priest. Your Priest will be very pleased to spend time talking this through with you.

Now don’t think I am saying something strange to you here…I will tell you with all my heart that I love you in the proper sense of love;that is spiritual love. I love you because you are a wonderfully made creature of God, I love you because God loves you and He knew you from the foundations of the world, He always had you in mind and He always will. I love you because God made no other like you and you are extremely special, you are His son/daughter. I love all people this way and all Christians are called to love this way.

Try to see yourself as God sees you and get hold of a little book called ‘The Father Speaks to His Children’ or you can read it online here:preghiereagesuemaria.it/messaggiodelpadre/the%20father%20speaks%20to%20his%20children.htm

**Excerpt from the above link:
  1. I am coming to banish the excessive fear that My creatures have of Me, and to show them that My joy lies in being known and loved by My children, that is, by all mankind, present and future.
  2. I am coming to bring hope to men and nations.
How many have long since lost it! This hope will make them live in peace and security, working for their salvation.
  3. I am coming to make Myself known just as I am, so that men’s trust may increase together with their love for Me, their Father. I have but one concern: to watch over all men and love them as My children.
The painter delights in contemplating the picture he has painted. ln the same way, it is My pleasure and delight to come among men, the masterpiece of My creation!

Time presses. I wish men to know as soon as possible that I love them and that I feel the greatest happiness in being with them and talking with them, like a father with his children.**

Do not be afraid. Hold your head up high; you are called by name by God to be loved and to love and not to live in fear. God desires this joy for you, that you know His Love and He desires this for you eternally.

In my Living Prayer of life.

It might be beacuse of the way you were introduced to Christianity. If you were made to believe by fear of the devil and hell and not being saved, then that probably explains all of it. I will pray as well.

Remember that God loves you. Why would he let someone that he loved go to waste?

You sound like me. Don’t worry brother , its part of growing, have faith. Tim
P.S. Don’t let the devil draw you into judging.

Two things I’d like to say:
  • you mentioned about “wherever you looked, you see devils”. I had an experience when someone told me that “he could see devil spirits” in other people. This is very dangerous and it is not for us to judge others or to even think devil in other people.
  • yes, it is the thought being to Hell is very scary. It is scary because it is real. Hell is real; however, do not let this fear overcome your trust in God’s mercy. Looking at your signature - it is an image of Divine Mercy - that should remind us Jesus’ Death on the Cross for all of us.
Keep praying as you have already been doing and ask God to help you trust in Him.

Ditto. Look for Christ in others.

Your sins are but a drop in His ocean of mercy. Your fear is a temptation against trust. I suggest you read materials that emphasize the love of God as opposed to His judgement.

Sins accompanied with humility are worth more than innocence with pride".–St. Optat of Mileve

One excellent book is How to Profit from Your Faults by Joseph Tissot and the name of the publisher is Scepter.

Another good one is Spiritual Combat by Lorenzo Scupoli and distributed by Sophia Press.

Anything by St. Teresa of Avila, St. Francis de Sales, or St. John of the Cross, or St. Therese (the little flower), is good.

In any case, recognize this as an oppression by the enemy and do not give in to this temptation. 🙂

Almost 1 year ago, I started to see myself as a very sinful person. I had never thought that being able to recognize how sinful I was is a great blessing. Being able to recognize that, I felt a lot calmer and peace. The reason for this is to know how merciful and forgiving God is through Sacrament of Reconciliation. Furthermore, this recognition helps me try to see a more beautiful side of a person.

Regarding to the comment of the OP about seeing devils in clouds. As I was walking outside my house tonight, I looked up the sky and remembered that when I was very young, I could make any figures out of clouds.

What I saw tonight was a pigeon - I thought of the Holy Spirit.

So, seeing Devils in clouds is probably our own imagination.

Cool. I was just talking to my wife about St. Faustina.

Water,
When I first started my journey, I had a rough time. The devil had a hold of me for years. He didn’t like seeing his “plan” crumble. God allowed some scary and humbling things to happen to uproot years of terrible living. I had to relearn everything (and still learning). I just wanted stove to know he is not alone. One thing is for sure. Nasty things flee from Christ. They can’t stand it. Keep Christ close in prayer and practice. Tim
