Okay, I am kinda nervous, of course I have panic attacks … Sunday will be my first time to go to Mass so I am nervous…
I honestly do not know why… I would feel better if I could talk to the Father first but I am unable to do to him having other commitments…

Is there anything in particular that worries you, or is it a general case of doing something you’ve never done before?

I understand the first-time nervousness if that’s what it is. I remember the first time I went on a private retreat. As it got closer to the date I got more and more nervous about it until I reached the point where I was going to cancel my reservation. When I told my spiritual director about my plan he reminded me that no one was requiring me to stay if it was terrible. Her reminded me that I could simply get in my car and leave. That was so freeing and has served to give me courage in many other situations. I remind myself that if it’s really terrible, I can always leave. And you know what? I’ve never had a case where I left early.

Prayers that it all goes well.

I don’t suppose there’s a friend who might go with you?

On the other hand, one thing about being Catholic is that you can have a spiritual home anywhere, even if you don’t know a soul. If you’re on vacation or just want to visit another parish, you’re not only welcome, but that other parish is your home as well. I have fond memories of being in different places and going to Mass, even if I didn’t know anyone there.

Nod or say good morning to the person next to you. They may also be there alone.

No I don’t . When I left the Baptist Faith I’ve lost all my friends ,I thought they were my friends, I guess not…

I can so identify with you, @GLOW. I was Baptist and had some major panic attacks when I first started attending Mass. It was anxiety of not knowing what to expect, being there alone, and fear that my family would find out. Relax and just “be” in the moment. I vividly recall such a peace at the sight of the Eucharist. Deep, slow breaths and ask God to still your heart and mind. You will come out a changed person.

New experiences are usually nerve-wracking. I am sure you will find the people most pleasant. There is usually a time to introduce yourself to those around you prior to mass starting. Just remember why you’re there. Just follow the crowd 🙂.

Most churches I’ve been to offer blessings to the unconfirmed. You can get in line during communion for a blessing. Cross your arms across your chest with each hand on the opposite shoulder making an “X”. That will let the priest know you’re there for a blessing from the priest. Or, you can just kneel while others go for communion. People will understand.

Enjoy your first mass!

Not knowing any one
We will all be there with you, at least in a mystical way😀. The Mass as a prayer connects all believers and lifts us up together into the presence of the Lord.
