What do you say to someone who says, “I am only human…” as an “explanation” of why they did something sinful?

Mt19:26:

That it’s a cop-out. All the saints in heaven were “only human” too.

Mt19:26:

It is a cop-out. This excuse can be used for every sin in the book.

Jesus didn’t say, “If you sin, you are only human…”

He said:

“Go and sin no more”

Jesus didn’t say, “You are only human you’ll sin at times just realize you are only human and you’ll be this way forever”

He said:

“Be PERFECT as your heavenly Father is perfect”

He also said,

“Woe to the one through whom sin comes”

We are to grow in holiness. I believe there is a state we can achieve called “theosis” where we are more and more like God and our sins are less and less to an extent that the only sins we commit are small tiny ones.

We are to always strive in holiness and not just sit back in spiritual laziness and rely on the words, “I’m only human” when we sin.

You could ask what is a human being. Talk about the great dignity of the human as being made in the image and likeness of God. That due to original sin we have this corrupt and fallen nature that we must struggle against. Sure we’re weak, but if we make up excuses for our sinfullness then we are on the wide road that leads to destruction. The human was never meant to be in this miserable state. When we sin there are consequences. There are diseases of the soul. Spiritual sickness. When one lives in sin ones mind becomes dull and darkened. Ones conscience becomes deformed. The human cannot be free unless he overcomes sin. Or at least struggles to. He who sins is a slave to sin. The consequences of sin may help the person eg. war, hatred, racism, prejudice, fighting, culture of death, deluge of pornography in the media and advertising, sickess of evry kind, suicide, etc etc. Sin is not without consequences. Hope this helps.
Happy Easter to all.

I think when someone says, “I am only human…”, they are really saying, “I am only an animal…”

“I am only human…” is cop-out most commonly used after someone has been impure in some way…either sexually or emotionally. Those guilty of fornication or adultery usually didn’t use their conscience but rather their instincts. Instincts, exactly what animals run on. Thus, that is why I like to say they that they really mean, “I am only animal…”

Christians are not animals.
