This movie is produced by CBN Films (as in Christian Broadcasting Network) and the blurb on the website seems vaguely to stick a finger in the eye of Rome. This said and acknowledged, is this a worthwhile film from a Catholic perspective? The timing of the release is unfortunate, but I’m sure they had this all arranged for, prior to the coronavirus pandemic. I won’t be going to the theater to see it, but I suppose it will be available online, DVD, or both.
If you really press evangelicals, they will affirm that there were “true Christians” during the pre-“Reformation” era, but they were Christians in spite of Rome, not because of it. At least they affirm the 1000-year history of the undivided apostolic church, and there’s something to be said for that.
