Yes the cross of Jesus is definitely important for without Christ death on the cross we can have no salvation. It is that payment which pays for MY sin debt. However, it is the resurrection that proves that Jesus said who he was. Anyone could die, lets just suppose that Christ was just a man. Well when he would of have died he would of just stayed in the tomb. Well Christ was God, and when he died he rose . It is the resurrection that defeated Satan. We glory in the rising again of the Lord. Why do you think Sunday is the worship day?

Here is some scripture to show:

in 1Cor. 1:23 does not mean that we should carry Christ on the cross, because of what Paul is saying. If we take the context of the whole chapter, Paul is rebuking them because they were following leaders, they got away from what really is important. The gospel which is the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. They were putting labels on men saying I am of Apollos but verse 17 sums it up

17: For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

The crucifixion is important but my salvation is complete with Christ’s final act of the resurrection:

ICor 15:13-14 states: But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen :

14: And if Christ be not risen, thenis our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

BUT CHRIST IS RISEN PAUL IS ASKING THIS QUESTION TO BELIEVER’S.

verse 20a: But now is Christ risen from the dead, See as in Adam all die, but with Christ all who believe shall be made alive.

Verse 22: For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

CHRIST IS THE VICTOR OVER DEATH THROUGH HIS RESURRECTION:

15:56-57 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57- But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

this scripture Paul is talking to believers those who are saved.

This is another statement my SIL sent me if I am bothering anyone with these please let me know and I will stop.

Thanks and God Bless
Kathleen

It isn’t quite clear from your post if this is you or your SIL talking, since I see numerous errors throughout. Rather than give us a page of Bible quotes, it may be more helpful for you to tell us exactly what she is getting at.

This is what she is sending me and I don’t have a bible handy and I don’t even have my cheat sheet. So I reply with what my heart tells me and than I come here for clarification along with my insight as I am not real strong in words. I will be attending the Church ministry institute this year with the hopes of not only gaining the knowlegde I need to dialogue but to become stronger at defending the faith. I am truely sorry that I confuse everyone but I lost many family members to non-denominational religion.

God Bless

I sent her a passage form Bible Christian Society on the curcifix and the Catholic Church and this is her response.

Thanks
Kathleen

One major problem with protestors is they tend to want to emphasise one point and feel they must diminish or disregard other points to increase the importance of the point they are trying to make. Your SIL shows this by attempting to diminish the suffering and death of our Lord, Jesus the Christ, because she wants to emphasize the resurrection.

The suffering and death are diminished to the point of being minor incidentals, anyone could die, His suffering and death are not important. Well, yes they are VERY important. He did not “just” die, He was scouraged, nailed to a cross and suffered for my sins. He did that for me, does that make my sins all the more revolting, you bet it does. Ever notice how some feel sins are not important? We don’t minimize His resurrection, but we aren’t afraid of His suffering and death either.

Thanks Tom, I wear a crucifix just to help me stay focused on it. One of the points I try to make is Do you really think that it is that easy to enter heaven. Just yesterday I ask my BIL if he were to die right now where will he go and he reply heaven of course so I said to him " you mean to tell me you are in a total state of grace" and he said yes. How can I answer that one becasue frankly I find it very presumputous and I did however shut him up. My Bother and his with the SIL in question were having some problems and through all of it I ask where were you and your wife my sister, he told that my brother was at his house every morning and that they prayed I said how come you didn’t go see his wife and he either quoted a passage or this is something his pastor taught him. He said that “when you are not right with the Lord you should avoid them lest you be like them” So I said you mean because you thought that Terri was in sin you couldn’t help her. That’s abandonment this is where the dialogue between my SIL and I began I told her that if this is what she believes than there is a real problem and she told me she doesn’t beleive the same thing he does yet they are the ones who led them out of the church. I am so sorry that this is so dragged out but it is weighing very heavy on me and I do not want to scare them away.

Thanks for listening and God Bless

BobKat, I think your question is best answered by what we pray at Mass, that is that Christ has died, Christ is risen and Christ will come again (or variations of this proclamation).

It is the through the whole Paschal Mystery that we have been saved and this three have to be seen always as one, just as we cannot say that only one Person of the Trinity constitutes the Godhead.
