I am sick, should I not go to confession?

Hello,

So yesterday and today I have had a cough and a slight sore throat. Earlier today, I checked my tempurature and it was up to 100.0. After a good nap, I checked my temperature again and it was back down to 98.4. I feel fine, except for the cough I have.

The problem is, I was planning on going to confession tomorrow morning. Now, I am feeling unsure whether or not I should go, due to my being ill. I don’t want to spread anything to my priest or other people who will go into the confessional after me. I have a couple things I want to confess and get off my chest, so do you think I should go, or should I not?

I would wait. What good does it do to make the priest sick and then he can’t hear anyone’s Confession. You have contrition in your heart, and you can follow up with Confession when you are better.

I’d probably wait to see how I feel in the morning.

Coughs can hang on for weeks. If you feel great otherwise, I would probably go. Unless you’ll have another chance real soon.

Say this prayer as many times as you can, or until you feel peace.
I had a bad cold once and this gave me more relief than cold meds.

Prayer in Time of Sickness

O good Jesus, I accept willingly this sickness which it has pleased you to lay upon me. I confide all my pains to your Sacred Heart, and beg you to unite them with your bitter sufferings, and thus perfect them by making them your own.

Since I cannot render you the praise due to you because of the multitude of my sorrows and afflictions, I ask you to praise God the Father for all I suffer, with the same tribute of praise you offered him when your agony on the Cross was at its height.

As you thanked him with all the powers of your soul for all the sufferings and injustice which he willed you should endure, so, I pray you, give him thanks for my trials also. Offer my sufferings, physical and spiritual, to him together with your most holy pains to his eternal honor and glory. Amen.

I would say if you feel well enough to go to work, you are ok to go to confession. If you wouldn’t go to work with your symptoms, I would wait to go to confession as well. I’m not a doctor, but I say if you don’t have a fever tonight and tomorrow morning, you are ok to go to confession.

If you have mortal sin on your soul I would defenitely go to confession. Heal the soul then worry about the body. Worst case secnario you don’t go and end up dead by some random cause. Sure you might think you have perfect contrition but only God knows for sure. Sin scares me more than anything and I cannot be at peace until it is gone and I am back in God’s friendship. This. I assume you don’t have a mortal sin on your soul because you haven’t already made an appointment to confess it.
