I am the only practicing Catholic in my nuclear family

I feel like the Holy Spirit is asking me to write this post, to make possibly known to other Catholic Christians battling with their faith.

I love my Mom, Dad and sister, but for the past month I have been going to church alone. My family made a very good friend that I met at the Adoration Chapel.

I just WhatsApp him and he drives me to places! 🙂

I think that my family just thinks that either I am weird or too Catholic.

I am recovering from Scruples and the Holy Spirit is telling me that scruples is bad.

I love the mass, but I love my family, too. Please pray for me and for families with young Catholic children, especially communion and confirmation candidates.

Stay strong!

You’re not alone in being the only or one of a few within a family who is practicing the Faith. I think that’s more common than most people realise.

Scruples is a heavy cross. Find a good priest to be your spiritual director in matters relating to the Faith, and stick with him.

Prayer offered as requested.

Jordan Peterson: Catholicism is 'as sane as people can get’

By the way, if you cite this guy, people may say you are however crazy you are now, squared.
too Catholic.
No such thing.

They said the same thing about the priests, martyrs, saints, and more. The weaker the culture gets, the more anything religious will be viewed as extreme.

2049: “I am religious, I don’t kill anybody and I went to mass on Christmas and Easter”.
2019: Bob, “I am super religious, I go to mass every Sunday.”
1901: "I am super religious, every Sunday, Thursday, adoration for 2 hours, and so on.

I don’t know how much of this could be applicable for someone in your particular situation, but if the people around you think you have too much of something, you can offset it by sharing with others.

It certainly is understandable for a religious organization to be quiet about the amount of progress you have made, and therefore you may not think you are qualified to teach others. I should probably warn you in advance though, you advisor may be less willing to introduce you to new material if you do this.

God gives. But you need to ask.My boss is also EO but his beliefs go as far as atheism and a rather contemplative pleasure in listening to Scandinavian music that is very contemptous to God and Christianity.
So last Sunday I lit a candle for him after the liturgy asking for God to illumine my boss on His own truth.
This week somewhere in the middle I noticed a broken pagan medal on our office kitchen table. My boss came in and I asked him if that is his. He replied yes, it was a charm on his key holder and it broke. Then he threw it away in the garbage and said “whatever! It’s broken.”

I know what it’s like to struggle with this. My family thinks I’m nuts for wanting to become Catholic. Just know you are not alone and God and Our Lady are there to love you and guide you.

Yes you aren’t alone. My parents go to mass on occasion but my brother has fallen away. None of my extended family is Catholic and some of them not even Christian. I live alone though so am blessed to be able to do as I like which is as much God as possible. God bless you
