I can't begin to imagine

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Looking at our Christmas crib at home, I simply cannot begin to imagine the inflow of grace into the hearts of Mary and Joseph as they gazed upon the Christ Child for the first time. Listening to the Mass Readings for Christmas Day, God’s Word resounds so powerfully:

Reading 1 IS 52:7-10

…Hark! Your sentinels raise a cry,
together they shout for joy,
for they see directly, before their eyes,
the LORD restoring Zion…

Mary and Joseph were the first to “see directly before their eyes” the Face of the Word Made Flesh! I can’t begin to imagine His beauty.

Reading 2 HEB 1:1-6

Brothers and sisters:
In times past, God spoke in partial and various ways
to our ancestors through the prophets;
in these last days, he has spoken to us through the Son,
whom he made heir of all things
and through whom he created the universe,
who is the refulgence of his glory,
the very imprint of his being,

and who sustains all things by his mighty word.
When he had accomplished purification from sins,
he took his seat at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
as far superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs…
Again, I can’t begin to imagine how the Light of God shone through Jesus, the “refulgence” of His glory. Still I thank God for this undeserved Gift He has given us, and continues to give us in Jesus. Jesus “accomplished purification from sins” – O God, how great is Your Mercy!

Gospel JN 1:1-18

In the beginning was the Word,
…What came to be through him was life,
and this life was the light of the human race;
the light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has not overcome it…

Only in the Beatific Vision will I see what eye has not seen nor has entered into the mind. Now is the time, however, to live in His light, by God’s Grace, especially in this Year of Mercy. Now is the time to prayerfully hear and do the Truth as Mary and Joseph did.

Although I know all the arguments surrounding the time of our LORD’s birth, isn’t it remarkable that Judaism (the first covenant) and the Church (the new one) both celebrate Light at roughly the same time each year???

Thank you all so much for your replies. May the Light of Christ shine on all the world as He came the first time, through Mary. May we continue to learn from her Who is the Mother and Model of the Church to open our hearts to receive Him and to share Him with all.
