I think a lot of people are not comfortable talking about their own sins publicly. Prefer to leave it until the confessional.

But in secular reality we are better than others…in our more talented area. I might be good at English Lit. and think I’m smarter than you but you’re smarter at Math and Science.

From God’s point of view we are all equal which I think is what you mean. All daughters and sons of God. But that sounds so communist to me. As if each of us arent special.

The way C.S. Lewis put it was that we don’t hold that our talents make us better than someone else. So a great artist could paint a wonderful work and be just as pleased as if someone else painted it.

There is a spirituality of humility that goes along with “For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours”.

All we create comes from talents from God. All the power we have comes from God. All the glory, then, is God’s. Indeed, all our possessions are God’s.

I think most of us experience these sorts of feelings. When I am tempted to do this, I try to call to mind Jesus’ commandment to “love your neighbor as yourself.” That command should prompt the question, “How do I love myself?” Well, part of it generally involves bending over backwards to paper over even my most grievous faults. So that means I should do the same for others.

When I’m tempted to think ill of others, I try to think of why I might be doing or saying such things if I were them. This really helps me a lot.

Even secular psychology has commented on this - that we tend to ascribe our failings to external things, but those of others to their character. And the reverse for our successes.
