This weekend my sister came to visit. Her boyfriend from out of town also came to town and I met him for the first time. He is not Catholic but Christian. They attended a concert that ran late Saturday night. She ended up staying late at his cousin’s house as he would have add to drive about two hours round trip to bring her back to my house and would have got to bed at 4 a.m. He slept at his other cousin’s house five minutes away.
When I talked to my sister Sunday morning I asked her if she wanted to go to Mass with me but she said she was getting coffee with her boyfriend and that she would miss Mass that day. She had to be at the airport early for a 6 pm flight and wanted to spend time with her boyfriend. She ended up coming to my house to pick up her things on her way to the airport.
I told her to go to Confession before she receives Communion as it is a mortal sin to miss Mass. She is 33 years old, a politically progressive and fuzzy on Church teaching. I told her this one time so she would be aware but I will not mention it again because I don’t want to cause an argument. She is an adult and has to learn to make her decisions in life.
