As far as I am aware I have never fully prayed the rosary in my life, but simply because I don’t know how to. I know I’m missing out on something great here but what on earth is a “decade” of Hail Marys and what are the “mysteries” what is the order of the prayers. I know about the rosary beads but not how to use them. I am a teenager so I am probably not one of many to have never fully prayed the rosary, is this true would you say? Also what I mean by not “fully” praying the rosary is because I was in chirch and people where reciepting several prayers (especially Hail Marys) lead by someone and I joined in but I don’t think I did the entire thing.

Thank you this post helps a lot! But how would you know which mystery to meditate on? And when people say meditate do they mean think about while saying the prayers?

Thank you for this and all your help, you have been a great help 👍

Relevant Radio has the Rosary from 5 to 5:30 pdt every day. I believe EWTN also has it daily, but I don’t know the time.

People pray the rosary in different ways. Some prefer to use images/pictures, other a short piece of Scripture, some like to use pre-written meditations. There are lots of ways to pray the rosary.

If you’re in the UK this inexpensive little booklet is available from CTS and many churches and Catholic book stores:

https://www.ctsbookshop.org/A-Simple-Rosary-Book-Booklet_D776

Lots of online resources too, this one is from the Dominicans in England and explains the mysteries and prayers used:

There’s no right or wrong way to pray the rosary. It’s a personal devotion. Not everyone likes or ‘gets’ the rosary but I’ve found it to be a daily companion in my life.

There’s a list. 🙂

And yes, basically. You think about it, what it means for you, how you can apply it to your life to help you grow closer to God. Things like that.
@Brittany I can’t wait for you to be received into the Church. You’re going to be a major asset to the Church! Keep up the learning and study of the Faith, and in turn the teaching and defense of the Faith (evangelization and apologetics).

I’ve noticed that when you answer questions, you usually answer them with as much orthodoxy and truth as any Pope or Bishop could answer them.

Sometimes people find it hard to pray and meditate at the same time. It takes practice.
I pray the Rosary with an Eastern Christian mentality.

Instead of meditating on the mysteries with your imagination, pray the prayers of the Rosary from the heart. Don’t try imagining anything, rather focus on praying the words with your heart meaningfully.

Since the Rosary is a private devotion and not a set liturgical prayer, it can be adapted to your own personal preference in many ways.

The Rosary is weapon, a powerful weapon against evil. Saints such as Padre Pio and Josemaria Escriva have referred to the Rosary as a weapon.

The Holy Rosary is a meditation on the life of Jesus Christ. There are 15 promises of the Rosary for those who faithfully devote the 15 minutes every day to pray and meditate on the mysteries of the events in the life of Christ.

One has to avoid simply rattling of the prayers; the Rosary is an opportunity for us to sacrifice our time and our mind by pausing our daily life for 15 minutes to immerse ourselves into each scene as we pray. It’s not that hard when one simply makes the decision to pause our ordinary daily thoughts and worries, and decide to give them to Jesus. We put our mind’s attention on the mysteries for a few seconds and let the imagination wander through the scenes of each mystery, while your hands keep track of the beads as you complete each decade.

I recommend Anne Catherine Emerich’s visions of Christ’s sorrowful passion, and reading through it at least once in your lifetime, so your imagination is equipped with imagery that you can draw upon every time you pray the sorrowful mysteries. It will really help your mind be immersed

Below is a good video that shows all the 20 mysteries of the Rosary in sequence to think about. The Rosary helps us rise out of darkness, enlightens our mind and increases our faith in Jesus.
