A lot went on this entire month and it was just so hectic. My mom works at night and is a nurse and she is always stressed out about her job. My mom in general is stubborn, pessimistic, complains a lot, and is verbally abusive. She is also very keen on traditions. This had led me to grow up to not stand pessimistic people, stubborn people, or people that complain a lot. With that being said, she allowed me to have a Sweet 16, which was yesterday and today is my birthday. She was never happy with the idea of a party and during the party she would not socialize and would just sit down on the couch and my friends noticed how she was. You could tell that she wasn’t pleasant no matter how hard she tried not to show it. She also made me wear an overcoat for my dress, which was modest and did not show much skin and it was kinda embarrassing because it was in front of my friends when she said that. For me, I thought the party was phenomenal. I had a lot of friends over from school and mostly from my youth group with a total of about 40 people. My friend was recording the party so that he can make a professional video out of it and there was music and a dance party and everyone had fun. Today, she got really mad at me about the party. She said that all the music and dancing did not go with our middle eastern traditions and it was too American and that American culture is no good. She hated the fact that my friend was recording the party. She resented the party and she also yelled at me for not working towards my drivers license. I haven’t received my permit yet because i was too busy with school and now that it’s summer, I will study for my permit. Okay, I have to admit, I didn’t have the chance to really talk about my party with my mother beforehand because I was studying for finals. But I don’t know what to do, I think she’s still mad at me. Please pray that she’ll let this go

Thank your mom for the party. And do so several times over the next couple of weeks. When your mom does nice things for you, make a special effort to thank her and to make her life easier. When she is difficult and moody, give her space. If she says anything bad about the party, just say something like, “I’m sorry you feel that way mom. I really enjoyed it and I’m so grateful you allowed me to have such a nice party.”

You’re getting closer and closer to being able to drive, to go off to college, and to support yourself. Every day brings you closer and closer to independent life. In the meanwhile, work on school and getting your driver’s license and enjoy high school.

Best wishes!

Lord, please grant many graces to this family, that they might always strive for faith, hope, love, joy, patience, and humility, towards each other and otherwise. Lead them gently and help each of them prioritize holy love toward one another, that their tongues always speak lovingly, and that their ears always give due attention. Send angels to help with this cause. Have mercy, Lord. Our Lady, angels, and saints, pray with us. Amen.

You sound like a loving and respectful young woman. Don’t be too hard on yourself and thank your mum for allowing you to do something which she didn’t really feel happy with - that was kind of her. 🙂

I pray for your future health and happiness, and for your mum, too.

I pray for Jcats and her dear mum:

Hail holy Queen, mother of mercy,
our life, our sweetness and our hope,
to you do we cry poor banished children of Eve,
to you do we lift up our sighs, mourning and weeping
in this valley of Tears.
Turn, then, most gracious Advocate,
your eyes of mercy towards us,
and after this our exile, show to us the blessed
fruit of your womb, Jesus,
O clement, O loving, O kind Virgin Mary!
(Pray for us, O holy mother of God,
that we will be made worthy of the promises of Christ!)
Amen.
