Sadly baby Jesus I don’t want my “crosses”. Being a saint sounds cool and all but I kind of just want to live a mellow stress free life…then die.

Anyone else feel what I’m saying? I’m not trying to renounce Christ or anything but tons of people on this planet (I assume) have found what I’m seeking regarding minimal suffering. So why can’t I get the same? Why does God keep throwing me in the lions den? I understand I’m good at killing them and all but when is he gonna let me sit by the fire place…read a book…And be done with it?

I just wanna work a cushy stress free job, have plenty of time to my self…make lots of love…and peruse my passions? Is that too much to ask?
If you get the cross-free life, would you be willing to assist someone else with their cross like Simon of Cyrene helped Jesus carry His? Remember, St. Paul states in one of his epistles that we should help bear each others’ burdens.

Ever heard the phrase “vainglory”? It’s exactly what it sounds like

There is no cross-free life for a Christian, for we must follow in the footsteps of Our Lord:

“Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” Matt. 10:37-39

Well you don’t have to intentionally seek out hardship. They will come in one form or another regardless of if you like it or not.

That said intentionally avoiding something because its difficult can be a bad thing. If someone needs your help and you don’t help them because it would make things uncomfortable or difficult for you, that would be wrong.

On the other hand you don’t have to go to go to a foreign land and become a Christian martyr either.
