Even after reminding my family, writing it down and reminding myself in the morning, I still missed Mass yesterday for Our Lady’s feast. I feel like such a bum. Now I have the “Eucharist or no Eucharist” struggle for Mass at noon today. I just hate when I do this…

@guanophore, I think you’re right 😉 I am very blessed, but life is hard and I tend to go through it on autopilot with my head in the clouds. If it’s Monday, I do X and if it’s Tuesday, I do Y and so on. I missed our staff meeting last week because it was on a different day than usual  Seriously, I need a mobile Alexa to follow me around all day, spouting reminders…

I suspect that you have a LOT Of company!
I missed the obligation day. And I don’t feel right about it. But hey, that’s life…Let there be health and God willing more opportunities will come…

I attended early morning mass on Saturday but then thought I’d satisfied the day of obligation for Sunday, it seems I didn’t. Back into confession again…

I went to the Vigil Mass for the Immaculate conception Friday night. If it wasn’t intentional, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. If you feel you should refrain from the Eucharist, that is up to you (though if you think it would be a sacrilege, you probably should). Next time you go to confession, please mention this.

They had one mass for the immaculate conception in our area. Which spands2 parishes and 3 churches and whilst the church it was at is normally pretty full it was empty. Your not alone in not attending the mass many people didn’t.

I missed it as well. It went completely out of my head (assuming it ever got in) because I was so tired and overloaded with things to do all last week.

If you missed a Holy Day of Obligation by simply forgetting about it, despite your intention to go, it is not a sin. Make it up by attending Mass on yet another feast of Our Lady this coming Wednesday, Our Lady of Guadalupe.

If it wasn’t intentional and since you said you tried to remember then I would think its a venial sin and you may receive. If you were thinking “nah I don’t wanna go to mass” then don’t receive

Please, speak to your parish office about this.

I work in a parish office. The priest has so much on his mind, we the support staff have responsibilities. One of those is keeping our parishioners informed. Here is what would have happened if you were our parishioner:

For 3 weeks ahead of time there has been a prominent article in the bulletin explaining the two Obligations and the importance of this and Mass times. Same goes for the recording if you call the Parish for Mass times.

Various reminders, articles, etc have been on our Facebook page in the week leading up to a HDO. Same for our website. Also for our customizable front page of FORMED.org

The sign outside the Church has had the HDO Mass Times listed for at least a week, it is prominent and faces a main “drag” road in town.

The “Liturgy of the Bulletin” announcements have been reminding everyone at Mass for the past couple of weeks.

On the evening prior to the Vigil, you receive either a phone call, a text or an email reminding you of the HDO (you have selected which or all of these methods as reminders).

This also happens for important events like the Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration or the Advent/Lenten communal penance services.

We know that this is part of our job, it is our responsibility and our JOY to help remind people. This world is a very loud and busy place, our parishioners depend on us to help them remember. My husband was in ICU at a hospital an hour away and I took one day to come back to the office to pay some personal bills and do all of the reminders for Immaculate Conception, that is how important my duties are.

Your parish may not know how to schedule advance posts on Facebook or that there are effective reminder services available. PM me and I will give you vendor names and what the pricing is.

Interesting wordage to use” bum “ -
I never thought of myself as a - hobo for Christ -
Me, I purposely missed it.
Holy days are always jammed packed -
With coughing , sneezing , nose blowing Catholics…
I know, you don’t have to shake hands - granting peace -
and the Eucharistic ministers probably have clean hands -
And it was 20 degrees out that day -
I didn’t go.
But I did study about Mary - for 3 hours that day.

Sounds like it wasn’t on purpose that you missed it.
Be at peace

I remembered yesterday’s Mass.

Got mixed up and lost and missed today’s!

Ahhh, life!

Wow. To avoid mass on a HDO intentionally, I would advise you to speak to your pastor as soon as possible.
Eucharistic ministers probably have clean hands
The Priest’s hand cleanliness has nothing to do with our duty to attend Mass on Holy Days of Obligation.

Talk to your Priest about it.

Oh and seriously, stop listening to any lay Catholics you find online, and cut out any homilies you find online as well. You’ll be better for it.

Welcome to the forums. These forums exist for Catholics to exchange ideas and thoughts.

Homilies online can be beneficial.

I get overwhelmed easily and I forget stuff, too. It’s annoying, right?

Good idea 😉

I think that’s a great system. The problem, however, wasn’t that the church didn’t let me know…I reminded myself just a few hours before the Mass…I just got involved in something and by time I looked at the clock again, it was 8:00 and I had clean forgotten
and large posters on the bathroom mirror.
Good idea!

It wasn’t on purpose. I just hate when I forget things…
Maybe sometime when your head is up there you can apologize or bring her a dozen roses?
LOL, good idea 🙂
Got mixed up and lost and missed today’s!
Now, you sound like me 😉
