I had to be trained to pray for people how about you?

I went to life in the spirit classes to be comfortable praying for people.

Praying for people is uncomfortable

I force my self to ask a person if they want prayer

It is easer when I go to a prayer meeting g

My parents did not teach me or demonstrate praying for people

What is your experience ?

My parents taught me to pray for people, pets, the Poor Souls, and everything else since I was tiny, so it’s natural.

However, if a person is not religious or displays any antipathy to religion, I do not tell them I pray for them. I just do it quietly without letting them know.

Those who are believers or who are non-believers who don’t mind prayer/ think it is good though they don’t believe (some of them see it as a positive energy, a positive expression of thought, a gesture of well wishes, etc.) are usually heartened by hearing another will pray for them in a difficult time.

My mom - the Now I lay me down to sleep prayer! I Was so little I could barely see above the edge of my twin bed when I knelt to say it!

I’ve found that using set prayers rather than having to “make something up” makes praying for people easier. I use stock prayers for different purposes e.g. sick people, the departed etc.

I went to a Catholic school so I learned the rosary, St Michael prayer, Guardian angel prayer from my grandmother etc. These are prayers that I grew up with and as I grew older I grew into personal prayer that sprang more from my heart than just the prayers I had memorized.

I like Catholicism for there are so many prayers you can learn if you need help with prayer and then for me it was easier to start my own prayer. I still pray a lot of the prayers I once learned in high school and growing up but with more of a reflection of the meaning of the prayer and in case of the rosary meditating on the mysteries

I really like the Scriptural rosary, with a scripture verse for each mystery.

What I find difficult is praying for non-specific requests for persons or reasons. I don’t know if I am praying for the good of a person or for a good cause’ or request. I know this should not matter because the Lord will sort it out, but I am one of those people who likes to ‘kick the tires, check the mileage,’ and be certain that my prayers have something of a road map to steer by. I know that I can and should do better, but I just can’t seem to better. Peace.

I learned very young from my grandmother… Hail Mary, Rosary, evening prayers etc…And i went to Catholic school in which I also learned many more too.

In those days,we practiced penmanship with writing formal prayers.

I am not good at praying off the cuff for others in thier presence or on CAF. But I do in private.
