I have a question…

When the priest in Confession gives the penitent advice, facts, etc. is it God who speaks through the priest or is it just the priest that says that?

It is the priest however, it seems that at such a time a good priest will dispose himself to the instructions of the Holy Sirit for that person.

I am pretty sure it’s the priest. however, since he has been given a special annointing by God, it might be good to take his advice into serious consideration. but, that advice is not part of the pennance.

for example, i have trouble swearing too much. I am always bringing this to the confessional and the priest gives me some hail maries and maybe a related scripture. but he then will say something like, “susan, you need to remember that what ever comes out of your mouth should be a reflection of your relationship with Christ. you need to be setting a good example for those around you” or something like that. does this answer your question?

I’ve been TOLD that prior to confession, priests are suppose to or are encouraged to, pray so that the Holy Spirit guides their thoughts and words during the hearing of confession.
