Can someone pray with an intention while praying the rosary? Where should I (name removed by moderator)ut my special prayer while I pray it? Should I focus on it during the mysteries? Because I thought you were suppose to focus on the mystery as you pray. I’m new to the rosary and I want to pray for my mom who may have cancer. If you guys want to pray for her that would be nice. Thank you and God Bless!!!

Yes.

For example: before beginning the the Rosary say I pray this rosary for -name- or the intentions of/for.

Some people mention their intention in a prayer before the Rosary:
Queen of the Holy Rosary,
you have designed to come to Fatima,
to reveal to the three shepherd children,
the treasures of grace hidden in the Rosary.
Inspire my heart with a sincere love of this devotion,
in order that by meditating on the Mysteries
of our Redemption which are recalled in it,
I may obtain peace for the world,
the conversion of sinners,
and the favor which I ask of you
in this Rosary (Mention your request).

I ask it for the greater glory of God,
for your own honor,
and for the good of souls,
especially for my own.

Amen.

I usually say before starting “I offer this Rosary for…”

I usually say it at the beginning, “this rosary is for X and the partial indulgence is for the Holy Souls” or something like that.

I also say after the Hail Holy Queen and the St Michael Prayer, a Memorare, which allows you to insert your petition there as well.

Some rosary novenas also include a special prayer where you can say your intention as part of the prayer.

To clarify, there is no right or wrong way to offer intentions while praying the rosary. Some people offer a single intention for the entire chaplet, others might have an intention for a mystery, and others may have intentions for each bead.

I know some people who insert their intentions in the middle of each Hail Mary after “blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus, [insert intention here]”. My personally, I like to specify an intention before each Hail Mary.

Now for the shameless, but related plug. I wrote an entire book focused on rosary intentions if you find yourself looking for meditation ideas: http://www.rosarymeds.com/book-orders/

I also have a stripped down free version: http://www.rosarymeds.com/intentions/

Of course you can. It’s your conversation with God through Mary.
