I was playing online with my friend and his friend. His friend was supposed to go to bed because he had school the next day. He decided to deceive his mom into thinking that he was asleep, then he would get back on later.

The question is this, should I have said something? Was it a sin not to say something?

I don’t really know him and I am not exactly a saint when it comes to listening to what my mom says either.

Silence is consent so yes you would be considered an accomplice. :dts: In the future you should speak up. Now with that said I’m dialing 911 right now. :bluelite:

I would suggest saying something along the lines of ‘You sure that’s a good idea?’
Sacrificing sleep for gaming (heck, sacrificing it for ANYTHING) isn’t healthy. I should know since I sadly tend to do it myself. The consequences the next morning (and the rest of the day) don’t feel too good. :o

Don’t press on it too much though. It’s technically still that person’s life. If he wants to deceive his mother and you can’t say anything to convince him without telling him off, know that there’s always the consequences to do all the teaching for you. Being found out by mum isn’t the only consequence there is either. 😉

Both of you should have a deadline so you can get you sleep.
A person has trouble thinking if they haven’t enough rest.

I soooo hope you’re channeling Groucho and aren’t serious.

OP, give it a rest, that’s typical childhood behavior. Every parent pretty much knows their child pulls that kind of stuff. If not, here’s a clue.

Yes and no…:hmmm:…I was under the impression that one could be an occasion of sin for their fellow brethren by being silent? Am I wrong?

Yeah, I will try to remember that next time. I definitely didn’t want to be all like “YOU SINNER!” and it didn’t come to my mind that I could go the " it is unhealthy" route.

It isn’t a grave sin (based on what you’ve told us), and being an accomplice in venial sin is almost… well, it’s unavoidable in the real world. Do I speak up every time someone commits a venial sin? Heck no, because I would be speaking up every 2 seconds! Next time, just say something like “Dude, we’ve played for a while, perhaps you should quit and just do what your mom says - I know it sounds silly but she does know whats good for you!”. Alternatively, you could log out of the game yourself and set an example.

If you worry about it, just bring it up with your priest in confession and see what he says.

There seems to be this relaxed attitude toward venial sins?
