I heard the opinion that Armenian monks identified education with Evangelization

I heard some where that Armenian monks identified education with Evangelization .
And in the ancient times the Christian civilization was opposed the pagan Barbarianism by that education which brings civilization, and there were the monks who dedicated themselves only to education and science.
Were they called Jesuits or there were some other names of these dedicated monks ?

These must be the great Armenian Mechitarists . . . they are Armenian Catholics but because of their great cultural and scientific contributions, they are well-respected by all Armenians and world-wide.
