So I’m a senior in high school…I recently said some things to my best friend who is a girl…weve like each other, but were not dating. I said things that she took the wrong way. And now she’s super upset at me… I’ve apologized, begged forgiveness, but even though shes still upset (though she did forgive me), I still feel as if I still havent “patched the wound”, for lack of better words. Why is that? Is there any way that this can be related to the Catholic faith? and any practical advice as to what I should do to heal the mess-up I made?

The first question here is: Do you have a close family member or a mentor you can talk this over with? Asking random people on the internet isn’t always the best place to go.

In the event that the answer to that question is “No,” I have another question.

What did you do? Did she just “take it wrong,” as you said, or was it something very unkind which she took very correctly indeed and is right to be upset about?

Here was the situation: after school, I walked her to the band hall because her mom was going to pick her up. We hadn’t seen each other all day. However, I did have a pressing duty, which I let her know of: “well, I gotta go. I have to go help my friend set up the concession stand.” she replied, “but I havent gotten the chance to see you all day.” Now, we’d been away from each other before and it was as hard as heck for me, but she did not seem bothered by it. I had no problem with that. So, without really planning my words, I said “Well, I didn’t think you cared.” As bad as that sounded, I did not even realize how it came across. I did not mean it like that, I meant it as “I didn’t think it bothered you,” but I spoke before I thought about it. It came across as mean. Now, she’s upset. I apologized and told her I did not mean it that way, though it is my fault shes hurt. I did not mean for it to come across like that.

I see. Slip o’ th’ tongue.

I honestly don’t think there is anything I can tell you that you don’t already know that would help. Just keep on trying to reconnect and explain that you absolutely did not intend any offense. It may be helpful to talk to her friends and ask them to tell her that you really didn’t mean anything bad.

I think she’s being over-sensitive. And so are you. Sounds like feelings toward each other are more than friends now.

Hey, she just texted me that she really did forgive me. 🙂 Thanks for reminding me of what I needed to do. It is truly appreciated. 🙂 And I suppose things are beyond just friends now. haha 🙂

Good for you and your friend to reconcile. And to answer your original question…no, it had nothing to do with Catholicism. You have just experienced an encounter with our lady friends that has been baffling men and keeping us on our toes since creation! Lol. I commend you for trying to figure it out and contributing to resolving the situation. That shows enormous maturity. You have a great future ahead of you. God bless!

Thank you! I have only my parents to thank for me being the way I am. And you are right; ladies like my friend sure do have a strange effect on me. 😛 It’s an amazing feeling to have feelings for a lady who likes you in return, though it is tough when things turn a little sour…The pain felt in the heart in such situations is worse than any physical injury I’ve ever felt in my life. It makes me wonder what Jesus feels like when we offend Him - after all, He loves us infinitely more than any person on earth could…anyways, 99 percent of the guys at my school only like girls for one thing. You know what I mean. -__- but I dont. I think its a sad relationship when the guy is only after the girl for that. Like animals, if you ask me.

👍 Yes, a lot like animals. Treat your friend well and you will reap great spiritual benefits. Good for you.
