I just saw “Crash”. 🙂 👍 :clapping: It’s an ensemble piece starring Matt Dillon, Don Cheadle, Sandra Bullock, and about a dozen other people you’ll recognize. It’s been nominated for Best Picture. It came out very early last year, so it’s now out on DVD. Rent it!

What’s it about? Roger Ebert summed it up best in his review, I think:
Roger Ebert:
Code:
"[Crash](http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/classifieds?category=REVIEWS01&TITLESearch=Crash&ToDate=20061231)" tells interlocking stories of whites, blacks, Latinos, Koreans, Iranians, cops and criminals, the rich and the poor, the powerful and powerless, all defined in one way or another by racism. All are victims of it, and all are guilty it. Sometimes, yes, they rise above it, although it is never that simple. Their negative impulses may be instinctive, their positive impulses may be dangerous, and who knows what the other person is thinking?
If you’ve ever seen “Traffic”, “Magnolia”, or “Grand Canyon”, you’ll have a pretty good idea as to the structure of “Crash”.

(ALERT! Semi-spoiler!)

Watch for the miracle involving the Iranian shopkeeper, the Latino locksmith, and the locksmith’s young daughter.

Although the situations and characters are all somewhat overdrawn to make the point, this IS a good film. I would especially recommend it for teenagers. Excellent performances all around. Best picture? Nah. But it IS very good.

I thought the movie was very well done - but I found the story depressing. Are people really that cynical? I suppose in the end - some of the characters had a change of heart (won’t give it away) but the guy with the van full of people… but still - all in all I was very bummed after watching it.

I thought the movie was OK. I’m not much of a movie watcher, but I thought Cinderella Man was a much better movie than Crash.

SPOILER!!!
You realize what happened at that point was not a miracle. Think back to when the gun was bought. Specifically, the dialogue regarding the ammo and the type the daughter recieved from the dealer. They were given a box of blanks. That’s why the dealer had a humorous look on his face.

Peace

Tim

Since I found every one of those movies to be self-important tripe, I think I can safely give this a miss.

My wife and I tried to watch this movie but had to turn it off because of all the swearing. It seemed like every other word started with F. I definately would not recommend it to teens, let alone other adults. The overall message may be worthwhile, but the language was just aweful.

Despite the foul language in the film, it was still a powerful one.

The scene with the black woman and the white police officer meeting for the second time ---- wow.

If you are offending by swearing, then take a pass. But if not, then you will see a very strong and “hitting very close to home” film.

I must agree with you on Cinderella Man. I just finished watching it for the second time about a half-hour before I logged on. It is an excellent movie and deserved to be nominated for Best Picture. Too bad it got snubbed in that category. Although Paul Giamatti is totally deserving of his nomination. Maybe they’re making up for the fact they snubbed him on “Sideways” last year.

Regarding “the scene” in “Crash”, I know it wasn’t a “miracle” in the classic sense. This was a bit more like a Festivus miracle, I admit, but I didn’t know how else to describe it without giving too much away. 😉

Not to go on a tangent, but i think it is sad that there is such a agenda pushing brokeback mountain for the best picure award at the oscars. I just watched crash today and I think it is REALLY deserving (Liked it better than cinderella man personally).

I watched the movie a long time ago, before all the hype. I wasn’t impressed with it. It seemed hackneyed and obvious to me. I liked one scene but that was about it. The rest of it was boring, annoying, and…boring. lol.

Just a suggestion: I have a TV Guardian, which mutes out all swear words on DVDs and television programming. It’s easy to hook up and you can order them on the Internet. Alot of Christian bookstores have them too. Mine has been great. You might want to consider getting one.

If I had that device during Crash, I’m afraid I’d miss the whole movie. I just prefer not to watch movies that use that language.

Crash was truly one of the best movies of the year. Very well done. I thoroughly enjoyed it!!! I agree!

It had that much foul language in it? I didn’t realize that. I’ve never seen it. In that case, I doubt that I’d watch it either. TV Guardians are good devices, but I have to say that it would be annoying if every few words of dialogue were bleeped. Thanks for letting me know. I’ll skip this one.

I thought it was a phenominal movie! It really makes you see how we all interlock and connect, nothing you do effects only you. you effect someone just by getting out of bed in the morning, it was unbelieveable, seriously a very powerful movie, one of the best I have ever seen. It made me rethink some of the prejudices I had even subcontiously. I would encourage anyone to see it, the language is a little rough at times, and there is some short sexual content in it, but the meaning behind it makes the minor foul language obsolete.

I could deal with “minor foul language”. This was way beyond that. I think we got as far as the scene with young couple after they had gotten home from the car-jacking. It seemed like the F word every 5 seconds and not just saying it, it was yelling it at the top of their lungs. It was just too much.

Wow, I just saw it and just wow. I realize how much prejudice I still have in me. I grew up around white folks saying the N word left and right and really expressing hatred towards not only African Americans but others of different “races.” I don’t usually like to use the word race because one thing I learned in school was that the idea of race was fabricated. We truly are just one human people.

SPOILER ALERT! Don’t read further if you havn’t seen it.

I almost cried when the woman was holding on tightly to Maria the Hispanic housekeeper. What a moment.

I saw Crash twice, it was incredible. Very emotionally heavy is how I would describe it. It was not a light watch! I couldn’t believe how bad regular people treat each other… is that really how it is in places like L.A.? Racism and all that exists everywhere, of course, but to this extent…

I have to agree with others here, though, that the constant foul language and that disgusting scene kind of ruined the movie a bit. People waste such talent on dumb things.

SPOILER!!!

I thought of it as a miracle. And, actually, it seemed to me that the Iranian guy’s daughter knew they were blanks and asked for them because she knew his temper. She didn’t want him to get the gun in the first place, right? So I figure she did the next best thing. And the gun shopkeeper had that look on his face because he thought she didn’t know what she was doing.

The Iranian family - Hispanic family issue was my favourite aspect of the movie. Especially the scene with this “miracle” and the aftermath. :crying:

We finally saw it this evening and I must say it was very good. The swearing was a little much but if it didn’t have some it would not be realistic.
