Should I still mix it all up and bake it, etc???

I’ve just been so busy and just now I’ve gotten a chance to finish it, but it smells REALLY funny.

I really don’t want to just “try it”…if it’s bad then I would be wasting a lot of milk, flour, eggs, etc.

queen anne, i have to laugh. i’ve done the same thing.

these days i tell my pals, “if you really want to be my amish friend, son’t give me any of that slop to fester on my counter. just bring me a baked up loaf.”

they never do.

lol that’s what I’m saying!!! This is the second starter I’ve had to toss:blush: I really LIKE to bake…I just have a hard time coordinating a clean kitchen, G’s nap, the right ingredients, and lack of errands , dr appointments etc. One day…

hehe oh man my mom used to have this stuff. Even with the big family we could hardly put away all the bread and muffins…sometimes she made it chocolate to tempt us 😉 A friend of mine offered me some and I was like, “NO! I don’t have time to get my car fixed let alone make bread every 3 days!” Maybe when I’m a SAHM I’ll be able to. Maybe  I can see Anne is not having much luck though!

The same thing just happened to me. Somebody brought me some and I very responsibly followed the directions and ended up with a baked loaf. Then she brought me MORE! I let it sit too long. She asked me how it was and I had to fess up that I had to toss it. Then, of course she brought me more again! Failed again! Luckily she got busy and didn’t ask again.

You know, this friendship bread is like a chain letter gone horribly wrong! 😉 😃 If I want to make bread, I’m more than able to do it myself (or buy it myself, LOL). Someone gave us this starter a year ago and I dutifully made it and then passed on more starter to others. It just now hit me how I just assumed I had to pass it on, lol. It’s really inconvenient and a pain AND didn’t taste all that great–why did I do that to someone? If I ever get starter again, I will break the chain!!! 😃

(My dad would make sourdough pancakes on weekends and made his own started and such, and NEVER felt the need to pass it on to anyone, lol. )

first clue that something’s amiss? fruit flies.

amish have a very strange way of saying ‘friendly.’

This thread is cracking me up! Our neighbor gave us some. I did one round of it. In the middle of the second round, DH decided it was time to install the new kitchen counter and sink.

Needless to say, that batch was tossed. I didn’t even want to attempt to open the bag and smell the funkiness inside of it.

I would say that my waistline appreciates the tossing of the friendship bread, too. But for some reason, it keeps expanding (for another 18 hours anyway). 😃

My mom made this once when I was really little…

And a couple of weeks ago the whole idea resurfaced again with a well meaning co-worker. 🤷

As I was the only co-worker deemed worthy to get a starter batch so all my fellow co-worker guys kept checking up on the status of my bag of batter because I’d promised them their own starters. 😃

I keep my flour and sugar in metal canisters (apparently that’s a big no-no with this stuff) so I ended up having to toss the stuff when it didn’t ferment properly. Man, that stuff stinked!!!

I was so happy to get that off my counter!!! 😛 But DH was even happier!!! 😃
