I just wanted to give a little shout out about nfp. I think it’s a great thing, and it works the way it’s supposed to. I wish more people knew about it. There’s no guilt, anything held back, fears, etc. It’s putting things in God’s control, with the hope that things go according to plan, but not restricting that plan to our design.

The hard part is combining NFP with WIH (Wife’s Instant Headaches).

NFP is great, I remember our Deacon telling us just before we were married that he and his wife had practised NFP all their marriage (around 30 odd years).

I will be getting married in April or May next year, and I and my betrothed are excited to begin using NFP when we are married. I have often heard God telling me to trust in his providence, to rely only on him, and I see this a a great gift from him. Before I heard God’s call, I was always worried about things, about having enough food, comforts, money, attention and respect from other people. But now, following Christ, none of those things are important. Well, they are and the Lord knows what my needs are, but I do not need to worry about them since they will be provided as they are needed. So with children.

Without trust in God’s providence, I might see a pregnancy as a mistake, a child as unwanted. The sexual revolution has taught an entire generation, and entire culture, that we are mostly mistakes and unwanted. That there are too many people in the world, and we should not even be here. All this is wrong. God chose each of us:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens, as he chose us in him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and without blemish before him. In love he destined us for adoption to himself through Jesus Christ, in accord with the favor of his will, for the praise of the glory of his grace that he granted us in the beloved (Eph 1:3-6).

I love hearing this! Its not something I will be using anytime soon, but I have been reading up more on how this works. I am starting to see it stressed in more churches (unfortunately not my church yet, but that could be because there are only a handful of young couples).

I wish that all teen girls would learn NFP. I would have loved to know when my period was going to be delayed and when it was going to show up! It would have saved me a lot of grief.
