By the books definition I am a sinner. By mine I am a person living the life I want.

God to me is a light at the end of the tunnel for your energy that leaves your body.

So because I believe in god, but not religion, am I going to hell by the bible’s definition?

Are you sure you dislike religion? or do u dislike what you think religion is? Religion is your commitment to God. You say you believe in God, I would bet you would think that if God is above and beyond all in this world, because He created it, that we could give Him love and commitment. Maybe you had a bad experience, maybe you were misinformed, maybe you saw people misrepresenting religion horribly. I don’t know, everyone sees some of this, but give the faith a chance, there is so much beauty you could see. You obviously believe in something, and your searching. Check out Fr. You can not love God and hate religion. They are the same thing. You can love God but disagree with the teaching of any given church. If you love God you do His will. You live like He want you to live. You defend the truth and you,as soon as you know enough,pass on the message from the Bible to others still seeking.
There are things that are hard to understand. Most answers are in the Bible,and knowing them takes you far. But not as far as you need to,hence you must also know why the church teach what it teach. So more reading, Alas,to love God is to love religion so that you can do His will. But if you love God with all heart,all your whole soul and mind,you also love religion.
I think that the best answer,once again,is to go and talk with a priest. He will explain it much better then I ever will. Meanwhile ask questions here on this forum. Here are a lot of people that can help you get “started”.

Define “Religion.”

It’s true that certain institutional qualities of churches or those directing them aren’t always Christian (a flaw of people and institutions, rather than religion, I’d argue) – but religion at its heart, especially the way Catholics understand it, is reflective of the Church, the body of believers and all His children, that Jesus Christ established near the end of his life.

Simply, bluntly, yes: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life…None come to the Father except through me” - Jesus Christ.

As GK Chesterton (I think it was him) said, “there are millions of people who hate what they think the Catholic Church is; but there are not ten who hate what it actually is.”

I suggest reading Mere Christianity and Miracles: a Preliminary Study by CS Lewis. They’re short, funny, and engaging, and are classics. See if your attitude doesn’t change, by learning what Christianity actually is, instead of what you think it is (which is probably “restrictive rules, prudishness, judgmental *******s, “behind the times”, double-standards, paedophile priests”, etc.).

By the books definition I’m a sinner. By mine I’m a sinner trying to live a life as best I can according to God’s will.

God to me is also the ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ when we leave our body.

I believe in God, which is why I believe in religion. I don’t know if I’m going to hell by the bibles definition. I also don’t know that I’m going to heaven. But I do know I have hope.

You see the bible is not a book saying “If you don’t do this, you’re going to hell” and if you do “these steps in this order you’re going to heaven.” It’s a book that says, God wants us to do this, he wants us to love one another and to love him. He is offering us heaven, and only he decides who gets in and who doesn’t.

Are you going to hell? I don’t know. Are you going to heaven? I don’t know. I do know this. You’re chances of getting into Heaven are much better if you are living for Heaven and not for you. Your chances of getting into Hell are much better if you live for you and not Heaven. It’s really that simple.

You see you say you don’t believe in religion. But simply stating what you do believe is stating *your *religion. So you do believe in religion. You stated your religion right there in your post. What you have a problem with is religions other than your own.

If you truly love God then you seek to do His will. His will is living the life He wants for you rather than living the life you want to live.
