My point exactly. Unfortunately, those catholics who tend to be more antimormonish have kept away from this thread. It would be great to get their opinion about it all.
hi why me,

I agree with Bishop Weigand and Bishop Wester (who is my bishop). Bishop Wester released a statement the following day in support of Bishop Weigand’s statement.

Doesn’t mean I agree with silly Mormon doctrine and theology and that I won’t say so. 😃

Monica, who calls herself NotSmart , is so right!
The Bishop sounds like an excellent God fearing man and I support what he said one hundred percent. 🙂
I would hope that if catholics were the ones being attacked in this case over this issue, that their Mormon representative would do the very same thing also. But, even if they would not, that does not matter. Catholics ought to be the ones setting the moral tone for christians world wide.
I don’t know if our Mormon friends here consider me anti-Mormon or not. “Anti-Mormon” sounds like a personal, one-on-one kind of thing. I do not think each and every Mormon is someone to be battled. I think Mormon doctrine is wrong, but I respect individual Mormons.I do debate against Mormon teachings, but I hope I have managed to stay charitable.

While I’m sure every church has its bad apples, the two Mormons I used to work with have excellent morals and ethics, and I consider them friends. I haven’t seen them since 1994; I wonder how they would react to my conversion? 😃

One of them and I used to get into trouble at work because our discussions sometimes got loud. It seems some people thought we were fighting!

God bless all of us,

Ruthie

i denounce the crimes being committed against mormons here in CA. specifically the vandalism, assaults, threats and harassment around the LDS temples regarding proposition 8

Go, Bishop Weigand! It was a seemingly-strange coalition which worked against Prop 8 in California. LDS and Catholics have been cooperating on many civic projects for a number of years, and when Bp Weigand was in Salt Lake he was in the forefront of these.

Go there: dioslc.org/

You have not converted your opponent because you have silenced him. If Catholics believe that acts of charity and kindness can inspire investigators to look closer, and we do, it is good leaven to extend those acts of charity. More investigators have been turned off by harsh words and closed minds than by any other single force.

Good for Bishop Weigand!
And I have to say, I’ve got lots of love for my mormon brothers and sisters.
Obviously they make up a minority of voters in CA, but they decided that this was an important enough issue to put some muscle behind it, and they defeated prop 8. Good for them! I wish Catholics would have the same courage of conviction.

The Mormons and Catholics of Salt Lake, I find, are good friends.

When I visit Salt Lake, I sometimes attend morning mass at the Cathedral of the Madeleine and sometimes organ programs at night. It is a beautiful edifice. When it was refurbished to it’s original beauty, The LDS Church was one of the benefactors/contributors.

As it so happens, I run a medium size Catholic healthcare company - a ministry as we call it. I am LDS. Our Chief Medical Officer is LDS. One of medical dept. chairs is LDS. The CEO of our parent company is LDS as are many others… The Catholics seem to love us and we them… of course our sponsors and founders - an order of Sisters are all Catholic. 🙂

👍

But we all need to be careful of the words that we use on the Internet when we refer to another faith. Those that use mocking expressions toward mormons or mormon beliefs can be indirectly contributing to the harrassment that mormons are now experiencing. Many individuals read the Internet and the hate toward the lds church on some sites does not help the situation or the understanding.

Many catholics do but many are also wishywashy about politics and just what the catholic church stands for. In this instance, the lds got political and showed their organizing skills over an issue that concerns the family. They did a good job but so did all the other volunteers that were not mormons.

I have always said that mormons and catholics can come together over similiar moral issues and show their weight as a voting block. And of course mormons and catholics can also discuss their faiths respectively of the other.

And of course you don’t have to. But most can find silliness in all faiths. And also silly doctrines. But all can reach a common ground on some form of understanding and all can discuss just how to make this world a better place and a more holy place to dwell upon. 🙂

Your post shows good cooperation among catholics and mormons. And that is a very good thing. We need more such cooperation. The lds church and the catholic church are forces for good in the world. And we should stress the good together. 🙂
