I have my own theory, about life, and it goes like this:
God intends that we shall each learn certain lessons, in life.
Those which we have already learned, determine what lessons
we are to learn, further.
Corrolaries?
In this life - learn easy or learn hard. But we will learn -
God will make certain of that.
Any choice - made out of sheer ego [in terms of the aggrandizement of ego] -
may well be rued, sooner or later.
Each state in life is to be oriented toward others, and their needs,
not soley our own.
That which is full of "self’ is not a vocation - same morphs into a vehicle
for the expansion of ego.
Those who marry, to gain a certain social status, are into the
expansion of ego. Those who have children, as ‘trophies,’
they, too, are all about ‘self.’ Those who choose religious life,
as a way to say “I’m holier than thou,” or “see me!” - these, too,
focus on self.
“I must decrease and He must increase.” John 3: 30
And when a given self recognizes this - no matter what the vocation,
the very order of things is now reflective of the call - not soley
to a vocation in life - but rather, to the call for Him to be our all in all.
God will exalt each of us, in the world to come.
“Thou hast crowned [us] with glory and honor.” [Psalm 8]
He prepares us, for the “weight of glory,” to come. [2Cor. 17]
Because God is love, He wishes to exalt each of us, in eternal life,
so that we will know how cherished we are, and to know our infinite value to Him.
With God, it is all about us - not all about Him.
That’s why God is love.
God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him. [1John 4:16]
And we will only be able to carry this ‘weight of glory,’ in eternal life,
if, in this life, we made it about Him, and about the needs of
His other sheep, not solely about our own needs.
It may take much of a lifetime, to even begin to make it all about others,
and all about Him - not just all about me. Yet He gives us peace of heart,
and sometimes even joy, each time that we forego the exaltation of self,
and keep our eyes on Him - as Peter failed to do, when he stepped
out of the boat. “Save me, O Lord!”
I cannot reach out for His saving hand, if my hands are full of self… I, me, my, mine.
God, have pity and mercy on each of us - as we learn to make it all about You,
