Yes, us Candidates were scheduled to be at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels at 6 PM. My sponser had bought me a brand-new white shirt and black silk tie for the occasion. I finished off the outfit with my dress kilt, knee length hose, badger sporran, and Mary Jane shoes.
Yes, mary jane shoes. With a strap over the instep and a silver buckle. Standard footware for men in the 17th and 18th century. The Highland Regiments continued to use it as their ceremonial dress shoe until well after World War 2.
So anyhow, my sponser and I drive to downtown Los Angeles, park ($5 fee) and joined the rest of our Church Party in the cathedral, in our assigned spacing. Along the way discussed The Legion Of mary, and I am going to become an auxillery member.
The highlight of the Rite Of Calling The Candidates To Continuing Conversion is when the candidates and their sponsers were called to the area all around the Cardinal. With such a HUGE crowd, only two people would be lucky enough to wind up directly in front of the Cardinal, about two feet away, with nobody else between us and him.
And those two were me and my Sponser! How about that?
Obviously, I was the only male in that crowd with a kilt, and maybe the only Candidate in white shirt and tie. The Cardinal, in his closing remarks, did comment on the wide ethnic diversity of the Candidates. My sponser was just thrilled, of course, and will probably be talking about it at her Legion of Mary meeting tomorrow night.
27 days until Confirmation:thumbsup:
