I missed confession!

Read the Old Testament. King David had as personal a relationship with God as anyone could desire, yet after his affair with Bathsheba/murder of Uriah, God chose the prophet Nathan as His vehicle to point out David’s sin to him, of which it would seem he was otherwise ignorant/in denial. The priest performs this very necessary function in confession.

More than that, God ALSO left it up to Nathan as His vehicle to TELL David that he was forgiven. “For your part, God has forgiven your sins”. No voice from the burning bush, no feeling in David’s waters, but a verbal assurance from God-anointed authority.

David, having a right relationship with God, was not presumptuous or silly enough to assume that merely praying for forgiveness secured it - or that a warm fuzzy glow after having prayed meant that he was forgiven. We are ignorant/confused/in denial about our sins, and so we can be about our forgiveness! THAT is why we need the verbal assurance of our priests, as David needed, and obtained, the verbal assurance of Nathan.

Yeah, that’s how it feels & the more aware of sin you are, the more aware of your actions. I am a repeat offender of taking the Lords name in vain. I dont plan on it, it slips out. I have come a LOOOOOONG way from where I used to be. I am no longer f’-bombing like I used to. I raised THAT to an art form. NOW THIS is the LAST bit of cleaning up to do & it’s the toughest part. I just slips out because I’ve substituted for every other word (I sound funny when upset now) and now every saturday at confession it’s like I have 12 counts of violating commandment 3. THAT is my little goal, it’s the part of me I’m trying to polish, though it’s like trying to polish a cannonball. I have no other vices, I dont drink, I dont smoke, I am chaste, I’m (A MONK~practically) I have to get rid of the For Pete’s sakes, (but not pete) and the dog gum it’s but no dogs…git it? SO…this is the one & I’m holding myself to a higher standard by going into confession for this. I’ve been chaste for 18 months, no women, havent acted on impulse & I’d say once you get past the 1st 6 months, it’s cake after that. But YES…SO THERE"S the background for all those who need a resume before they respond, LMAO!!! SO, The Rosary helped me with quitting smoking, Gregorian Chant helps w. the road rage, What is the substitute or I guess what is the trick to cleaning up a potty mouth? UGH!!! Its a tougher habit to break, you never really know how tough it is until you actually try.

Ah Jason…sounds like you’re trying to smash down your nasty ol habits and/or sins one at a time. It sounds like you’re doing great!! I’ll agree with another poster and make a bet that God is pleased with your efforts. At least you’re trying. I too have been no smokey for about 6 weeks now. And I too am working on certain issues of the mouth. It can be SO hard. I’m sure you’ve read James chapter 3 on the tongue - St James recognizes how difficult it can be to master. Reading that both helps me feel less condemned and inspires me to do better. Keep workin on it. So will I.

Ah Jason…sounds like you’re trying to smash down your nasty ol habits and/or sins one at a time. It sounds like you’re doing great!! I’ll agree with another poster and make a bet that God is pleased with your efforts. At least you’re trying. I too have been no smokey for about 6 weeks now. Thanks, I really hope TRYING pleases him, I have learned to be conscious of struggle, & suffering & trying to think to offer it as a sacrifice to the Lord. Lack of comfort, food, etc.

But also, I try to remember " a man that flatters his neighbor prepares a net at his feet." LOL Thanks for the compliment.

I live in Los Angeles where the traffic can be horrendous. I would be a nervous wreck if I let bad drivers and the time lost to traffic get to me. The best thing is to simply be patient with the situation on the road and offer up your frustations to Jesus. He will give you peace of mind on the road. And, often times I like to imagine Jesus sitting in the empty passenger seat on my lonely commute to work.

I think though that you are overblowing your sin. If it’s done on careless impulse, cursing may not be as sinful as you think. After you slowly control your anger behind the wheel, the cursing will disappear with time.

I encourge you to keep posting here. But you can’t dictate the responses you’re going to get on CAF any more than you can dictate how your family and friends in real life respond to you. That’s actually a *really good *thing about posting at CAF.
