Rite of Election to celebrated Feb. 23-27
Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will meet everyone going through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults process in Arkansas during five separate rites of election to be held in Jonesboro, Rogers, Little Rock and Texarkana Feb. 23-27. The rite will be held at the following:
Blessed Sacrament, Jonesboro, Thursday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m.
St. Vincent de Paul Church, Rogers, Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m.
Cathedral of St. Andrew, Little Rock, Sunday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
St. Edward Church, Texarkana, Monday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m.
During the Rite of Election, the bishop declares catechumens ready to receive the sacraments of initiation, which are baptism, confirmation and the Eucharist. Through this process, they become known as the “elect.” At the same time, he calls candidates to continuing conversion as they prepare to be confirmed and receive first Communion. Candidates are those who have already been baptized.
The elect and candidates are participating in RCIA, which is offered at the parish level, and generally begins in the fall and concludes with full initiation at Easter.
