I’m new at Catholicism, so don’t get mad.

What is the Vatican 2? How is that different from the Vatican 1?

These were councils that were held at the Vatican. The Church calls the councils according to where they were held, Like the Council of Nicea, Council of Trent and etc. These are where all the Bishops come together.

I will let someone else answer what the differences are. But I sure hope no one will get mad, except for each others answers

Vatican I and Vatican II were two Church councils. There have been 21 General Councils of the Church. The last two were called Vatican I, and Vatican II.

Vatican I differed from Vatican II in that it defined dogmas of the faith. Vatican II did not define any dogmas. It was said to be merely a “pastoral council”, rather than a dogmatic council that defined doctrines that are to be held by all Catholics.

When a doctrine is defined it becomes part of the faith that Catholics are bound to accept. Vatican II was the first general council that did not define any dogmas.

Before Vatican II, all Masses were celebrated in the language of the Church- that is, Latin.

The operative word there is “crash”. 🙂 Slow down little brother and take it a day at a time. Short of divine intervention, (and there have been some) you can’t get it all at one time.

You might go to New Advent, and look up Church Councils and wade through all that info.

There will be a lot, basically because you are talking about the entire history of Christianity.
