Great minds think alike! You should visit the blog. I think you’ll like it.

I have 13 secular Christmas songs which are in December and then 13 Christian Christmas songs which span Dec 23 through Jan 6. Go Tell It On the Mountain was posted on Jan 2.

I think I have at least half of the others ones you posted, too. I’ll have to check. The Name Game is on there! With all these great ideas, I’m not going to be able to choose and will have to extend it into a second year!

If you had to choose just one song you thought you had the greatest chance of walking up to someone and having the person know it, which song would it be? It doesn’t have to be one already posted, but it can be. I had a dearth of songs and now I have an overabundance! Which is a wonderful thing! I am really happy for the help because I was about to post “Che Gelida Manina” if I couldn’t find something else.

I just saw this. How could I not think of the Oscar Meyer Weiner song? “Danny Boy” is going to be bumped for that one!

Thank you for the list!

I have a beautiful rendition of Ave Maria sung by Pavarotti on there.

I match the songs to events in history. Yesterday’s song was My Grandfather’s Clock, which talks about the clock stopping when Grandfather died. I matched it with the end of primogeniture and entail which had the eldest son inheriting the largest share of a man’s estate and all of the land. Georgia’s end of primogeniture and entail recognized the rights of women and younger siblings and was radical in its day.

I think I’ll finally be able to make a match with the great list of songs you all helped with. Thank you!

In other song news, we vetted one which said “all the things she said” in it. I heard my daughter singing, “all the fish are sad” and had to laugh. Music is such a powerful medium and can connect people of every race, class, and culture. We are priviledged to have access to the greats from history at our fingertips today.

I think it is showing mine that I already have that one! Shh! Joey was right about the age gap. For yesterday I had Shenandoah, which I chose because it was the day of the first organized immigration of freed slaves to Africa from the United States. I was disappointed to not find any black men singing the song other than Paul Robeson. I can’t have him doing *every *black spiritual. The woman I did find sang it beautifully, though. I’m surprised I hadn’t heard of her before. She sounds like Celine Dion.

This is getting to be an awesome “must-hear” list!
