I need elementary Catholic Latin curriculum suggestions

I am looking for an elementary Latin curriculum that I can incorporate into my homeschooling. I am interested in my children learning Latin elements of Catholic life, parts of the Mass - kyrie, etc. I need something basic and on a beginner, grade school level. I have found a general Latin curriculum that will teach names of animals, etc. but I am not interested in that. I looking for a curriculum that will enhance our Catholic faith. Any suggestions appreciated.

But the Kyrie is Greek. :confused:
 
the kyrie is indeed Greek, not Latin.

You could start with a good missal. Mine has all the readings and prayers for the ordinary form of the Mass and it has the introductory rites through the conclusion rites in English and Latin on either side. Knowing Spanish and English will help you find roots in the words and be able to connect them with their correct meaning.

Try Baumeister Missal Latin (with pronunciation tapes included) or Collins’ Primer of Ecclesiastical Latin. Also try to find a Latin Mass and study daily. Memorize the Pater Noster and the Ave Maria. (Search on YouTube for pronunciations.) The grammar of the language can be quite delightful and fun.

I would go with something like Latina Cristiana. It’s not Catholic, but it does include religious elements and prayers. You can supplement it with the Latin texts of the Mass or with something like Ecclesiastical Latin (Collins).
 
You might look at Father Henle’s Latin series. It’s quite good grammatically, and is full of both Catholicism and ancient history. It is an older text–written, I think, in the 50s–but it’s been republished.
 
I wanted to incorporate this into our home school curriculum as well. I remember searching a couple years ago and not finding anything we really could use. I thought to enlist the help of a former Latin teacher turned stay at home mom but she was not interested in offering a home school type course.

For anyone who wishes to come up with the curriculum or offer courses for homeschoolers either online or in the area there is money to be made here.

I would pay a pretty penny for quality curriculum in this subject.🤷
 
Prima Latina, from Memoria Press isn’t Catholic, but doesn’t conflict with the faith, and includes some of the latin that you’ll find in the Mass.

My preferred way is just to have my kids experience it at Mass, and then to bring the music that we use to chant the Mass parts home, and practice them with my kids. It’s not too hard to translate the Mass parts as you are learning how to sing or chant it. Youtube can help if you’re not musical.

Yes! I’m surprised that there is no specific program to fill this niche. Ideally I would like something titled “Beginning Latin for Catholic Children: Basic Elements of the Mass Explained” or something to that effect. During Lent parts of our Mass were in Latin and it would have been the perfect time to incorporate a Latin program, showing them why Latin is useful.

I think the Memoria Press courses come as close as you can get for now. Prima Latina is a full Latin course that doesn’t just include the prayers, but it does include prayers. (I don’t have experience with Latina Christiana) Then there is Lingua Angelica, which is specifically Christian Latin Music and Prayers. I only have the CD for this (there is also a teacher’s manual and a student book), but it includes the Sign of the Cross, the Gloria Patri, Table Blessing, Pater Noster, Ave Maria, Salve Regina, Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei, plus a number of latin hymns. This sounds like it might be just what you need. It is for 3rd grade and up, so if your child is younger (or at the bottom of the range), it might be difficult for them to do academically. But if you are interested in sticking with Latin, that’s ok - just start with learning the prayers and informally talk about what they mean, and then when they are old enough to do a more formal program, the prayers will fit right into their knowledge base.
