Hi,

I am a recent convert to the CC (praise God!). I was raised Methodist. When I was a child, my dad never attended church with us. I have heard him refer to the Methodist church as “our church” but I find that odd since he never attends.

My father has spent nearly his whole adult life building his business. He is now at retirement age and unfortunately, the past few years have been financially difficult for the business. He is in a position where he is looking at closing it or trying to sell it. The stress is eating away at him. He is terrified of losing all the money he has tied up in the business. I believe he is also concerned about what people will think about him if the business fails. He is very prideful. For him, life has always been about financial security and what others think. I am watching him struggle with his current situation and it is breaking my heart. I want him to know that there is so much more out there.

I think that this is an important time to witness to him. I just want him to feel God’s love for him and to free himself from the worldly concerns. No, I am not asking him to forsake all responsibility associated with the business. But what I want is for him to sleep at night and feel peace in his heart, whatever the business outcome is.

What can I share with him? He does not read books, but maybe he would read an article. He might listen to a CD or tape. I would like to invite him to Mass, but he won’t even go to the Methodist Church with my mom.

Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I don’t have anything in specific but EWTN has a huge library of free dowloadable audio files: ewtn.com/vondemand/audio/series_index.asp
I recently downloaded and burnt to CD a 13 part series on the Virgin Mary by Scott Hahn, it was great. If you have a CD burner (or know someone who does) there is a wealth of stuff availble on their website.
