I guess I’m the only Catholic defending the faith on the CARM forum.Look under “Catholicism” I’m getting swamped. My screen name over there is piety101. I need your support in defending our faith. Please join me. Thanks.

I’m sorry but you will get nowhere on that forum. NOTHING ANYONE CAN SAY WILL GET THROUGH TO THEM! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve warned people here about those forums when it comes to our faith. Matt Slick is dishonest in his presentation about Catholicism. In fact, I’ll go so far as to call him an out and out LIAR!

The people that are registered with that forum have a virulent hatred of Catholicism and no matter how many facts you give them, they ignore you completely. I once thought I could disspell the “misconceptions” they have about Catholicism - but I was horribly wrong. I thought they might be willing to discuss things. I was so shocked with the way I was treated. I had a hard time believing that people could be so hate filled towards another Christian! Matt Slick has convinced everyone there that we are not even Christian! I tried so hard, that it was making me physically ill - stomach aches and the like. I finally realized that I was making myself sick for nothing! (Just thinking about my time there makes my stomach hurt again!)

Leave them to themselves and shake the dust from your shoes and stay home - or at least find another site that’s not so filled with hatred for Catholicism.

Just my opinion - and experience, though.

Oh you wouldnt believe i was on my own against about 4 evanglicals,me trying to defend purgatory…it was hard,i dont even like going to that forum anymore…!!

We must try anyways, but don’t get yourself too bent out of shape about it.

Remember, it’s possible that just one person browing those forums may actually be receptive to what you’ve written and start researching it themself.

Also pray for all of them! 🙂

That said, I am a firm believer that to reach non-Catholics, it must be done one-on-one. In groups, they have this fellowship thing going on, and they get this adrenaline rush from all ganging up on people. Only alone can they be reasonable (usually). Also, in a group they’re too embarrassed to actually try to ask thoughtful questions to you (like for more info so they can understand better) because then they are afraid everyone else will get mad at them.

Remember, they are all in their hearts (probably) really seeking after the TRUTH about God. So long as they are doing that, there is always hope.

Hi, I just registered but all of the forums are locked. I’m not sure how to post there.

Amen to that! I have found protestant friends and acquaintances are in many cases quite receptive to learning more about the Faith in one-on-one settings. When presented with the facts THAT way they often times are able to overcome their false prejudices and sometimes consider conversion. In a group setting, forget about it. They all affirm each other in their falseness and gang up on outsiders. God bless!

JustCatholic,

I applaud your defense of the faith, and I’ve gone to similar forums and duked it out as charitably as I could. But DianJo is correct: some people aren’t receptive to any correction of misperceptions of Catholicism. I was on “Former Catholics for Christ”, and those people were just nuts—insulting, demeaning, and crude. Very un-Christian, to say the least, and not at all capable and/or willing of employing reason. If your “opponents” aren’t using reason, you’re sunk—you can’t debate with illogical people. However, I stuck to it for a while because of what Lazerlike42 stated: there may be someone who just happens to come across the site and is browsing. Because of those people, it is extremely important to remain calm and charitable, no matter how tough it might be—don’t return sarcasm with sarcasm, and be sure to say, “God bless”, etc. So, in short—know in advance that you probably won’t have any effect on the people you are responding to. You might have an influence, however, on passers-by. But one big warning: if you don’t know your faith well, don’t get into those situations in the first place. Don’t endanger your own faith, or the faith of others, if you don’t feel very secure with your own knowledge.

I’ve got your back Just. Tell me what to do. Ready to rock and roll in love! 👍

Click my screen name and email me. Let me know what you need. Semi-pro apologist and former Protestant. Lemme at 'em! 👍 Let’s chat and figure out how to tag-team one of them in love into Christ and His Church. Remember, when we get insulted and hammered, there is a mighty reward! All the best and may Christ our mighty King and His Blessed Mother smile upon all who read this. 😃

I’m a member on those boards… but I left when I got swamped by all the replies. Sounds like a lot of people did the same. Maybe if we all went back we could accomplish something, hmm?

JustCatholic,

There’s a Liberian over there, and VociMike, and (I think) a few other defenders of the faith. There are also some very vicious anti-Catholics.

If I may offer a little perspective, the vicious attacks of anti-Catholics cannot lessen our Church any more than atheists can subtract from the glory of God, or any more than a madman can blot out the sun by scribbling “Darkness” on the walls of his padded cell …
  • Liberian
who is also Liberian on CARM

I debated on that board for a few months. Then they banned me.

The women in charge at that time was Helen…she is not fair to Catholics.

Heh, heh, their server seems to have crashed this morning …

There are indeed several other defenders of the faith over there. But right now nobody there is talking to anybody else there. (Of course, this site was in the same boat a few days ago …)

There is an atheist site poking fun of CARM, it’s called ATHEIST APOLOGETICS RESEARCH MINISTRY AARM . They say they all got banned from CARM. The strange thing is that from what I’ve read, they are nicer to Catholics then the Christians at CARM. Go figure. :hmmm:

I went to that Bible forums and they were totally suspicious and quite hostile towards me, for asking a simple scriptural question. Obviously I was attempting to lead them down the path where they acknowledge the cathlic position to be valid.

They sussed me out and banned me from posting. Guess I shouldnt have used a latin name, that probably gave the game away from the start.

did anyone have any joy on bibleforums.org ???

I post on CARM’s evolution board from time to time. I’ve been very clear that I’m a Roman Catholic. And Matt Slick and I get along O.K.

But if I’m there, I have to accept that someone can tell me that the Catholic church is a cult that encourages child molestation, and there will be no action taken against them.

That’s how it is. I think, if you got a group together that was enough of a counterbalance to the official doctrines there, you would just be banned.

There’s no dishonesty on this point; and the moderation generally adheres well to the state rules. But don’t expect a level playing field.

Important notice:
It is the policy of the moderation staff here at CAF to discourage “board swarming” by members.

If you wish to post on non-Catholic boards, that is, of course, up to you, but please bear in mind how it feels when someone on another forum does the same to you here.

Please do not post “Calls to action” on non-Catholic/anti-Catholic fora.

Thank you all.
Your servant in Christ.
Michael Francis
