I’m having a rough time of life right now… so I’m taking a shortcut…
All Souls Day is Celebrated Sunday Nov 2 , insteas of all Saints
The Mass is that of All Souls, so the song choices can have themes on the last things. Some that come to mind include:
Jesus Christ is Risen Today
Christ the Lord is Risen Today
I am the Bread of Life
For All the Saints
O Radiant Light
Some of the Gregorian Chant Latin propers you may use are
Introit: Requiem Aeternam
Offertory: Domine Iesu Christe (this is a rather complex one, but I love this hymn from the Roman Gradual).
Communion: Lux Aeterna
Final: Libera me.
Dedication of John Lateran Basicial on Nov 9. (I googled it and still am unclear on its meaning)
The Dedication of St. John Lateran commemorates the dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome. The Lateran Basilica, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, is the Cathedral of the Diocese of Rome, and, therefore, holds the seat of the Bishop of Rome (guess who). As such, it is the highest church (surprise! It’s not St. Peter’s). The dedications of churches are celebrated with great solemnity since they are symbolic of the local and universal Church, the Mystical Body of Christ. Dedication anniversaries are Solemnities in the church itself, Feasts in the jurisdiction of that church (e.g. parish for a parish church, diocese for a Cathedral). Since the Lateran, as the Cathedral of the Pope, has universal significance, the dedication anniversary is a Solemnity in the church itself, and a feast in the universal Church.
Songs can be those like:
Now from the heavens descending.
The Church’s one foundation
Christ is made the sure foundation
Chants from the Gradual can also be used, such as Tu es Petrus, or chants from the feast of the Chair of St. Peter.
