Hello and Bless You,

I am in RCIA and started in Jan. 2005. I have been faithful and have not missed one meeting or Mass since. I also go to confession at least once a month, and have been regularly since I first started RCIA.

It has been very diffulcut for me lately going to Mass, and not being able to participate in Holy Communion.I feel especially unconfortable when for about 8 months now, I have been aproaching the Host and receiving a blessing from our Priest, who during Mass mentions that those who for what ever reson are not acustom to receive Communion in a Catholic Church they may receive a Blessing, that everybody is entitled to GODS Blessing and if that is what they wish ,they may approach with their arms crossed over their chest.
I have come to Love God and My Lord Jesus Christ,Our Blessed Mother and the Catholic Faith very much, but it hurts me terribly not to participate in The Holy Eucharist.

What can I do? Im not to be confirmed into the church till Easter and it seems like forever. Im a Canadate not a Catacumen and Im at a struggle with this issue, I feel Satan wouldnt love anything more than for me to give up but I will not. and I pray often daily for Gods protection and Blessing.
WHAT CAN I DO? AND PLEASE WHAT PRAYER CAN I SAY During Mass for Christs’ Blessing for not partaking in the EUCHARIST. YOUR FAITHFUL CONVERT AND DEVOTED BROTHER

GOD BLESS :tiphat:

I assume that you are Baptized, since you are going to confession. Is this correct? Was this in a Catholic Church? If not, there may be some issues relative to how the Baptism was performed. Not all protestant denominations do this, or do it properly, according to the Catholic rite: “I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”, while the person is either immersed in the water or has it poured over his/her head. Assuming the Baptism was performed correctly, I don’t understand why they are keeping you from receiving the Eucharist. I do understand why Catechumens must wait. They receive the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter vigil (i.e., Baptism, Confimation, and Eucharist).

Yes Im Baptiized. It was in the Metodist Church at age of 2months old.

Thank You for responding,
Bless You

Hi there - welcome! 👋

I know how difficult this is - patience is not one of my strong suits, and sometimes I think I am starving for the Eucharist. Because of my marriage situation, it may be a very long time before I am allowed into communion, so I do understand.

At the first mass I went to, I followed someone’s suggestion that I approach the priest for a blessing and that was fine. It’s apparently acceptable in some parishes and discouraged in others.

Something that I’ve discovered, though, is that if I kneel quietly in prayer, instead of going up for a blessing, I am better able to concentrate on receiving a communion of spirit. I put everything that I am and everything that I have on the altar and pray that Christ use it all for good. That I learn better every day to seek His will, not my own. That I understand the Eucharist better.

“Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and I shall be healed.” I repeat that and ask Him to provide communion in the spirit, to strengthen me in my walk with Him and make me less subject to the world and to my own pride and ego and intellect. I don’t have any subjective evidence that this occurs, but it’s interesting to me that my faith and understanding of the Eucharist have grown faster than I ever dreamed possible. (Six months ago, I was anti-Christian.)

The priest is going to bless the entire congregation a few minutes after communion has finished, anyway, so I don’t feel like I’m missing anything, staying in the pew.

Having a sense of hunger for the Eucharist is good for us - the hunger doesn’t come from us, but from Christ working within us.

You’re not alone - we just have to remember that this trial is here for our good. If we can see it as a trial which will strengthen us, it loses any sting. Yes, it’s still difficult, but knowing that we will understand it someday really can make it a lot easier.

God bless you! 🙂

this longing to receive Jesus Christ in holy communion is natural product of the intense study and prayer you have been doing. Since Paul uses the marriage analogy to teach the Eucharist, recall the engaged couple, who the more they get to know each other, the more time they spend together, the more intense their desire to live together always and to consummate their marriage. Yet they know there is a reason to wait, not only because it is God’s command, but because it is the law of the Church He gave us to regulate our lives on earth. Please use this time to meditate deeply on the Eucharist, the lectionary readings, the process you are going through, the rites that are being celebrated, and the sacraments you are anticipating. this is an especially good time to learn more about the Holy Spirit, since you will also be confirmed, and about what He will do in your life.

Hello…

Try and hang in there, everyone has given good advice and I can’t top that but you asked what prayer you can say during the Eucharist, this is a small spiritual prayer that I prayed at Mass until I was able to receive Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

Dear Sweet and Loving Jesus
because I am not ready to receive you sacramently,I pray that you will fill my heart with your grace and allow me to receive you spiritually.
~Amen
God Bless:wave:

Been there; done that. The ain you are experiencing now is a gift - a true gift of God. Cherish it. The humility and patience of obedience you are learning will serve you well in the future. It is also said that longing for the Eucharist is a very powerful and efficacious form of Penance.

Thirsty4uolord; you have my prayers. I know exactly where you are at and it is a very painful place. Firstly, don’t despair and don’t give yourself a had time by thinking that, somehow, you are not worthy. You most surely are but you are not ready.

I took my FHC, Easter 2002. But from about 8 months before I began to really understand what i was missing in not being able to eat at Our Lord’s table. It surely was painful. There were some days when I would cry walking back home from Mass. Just cry from the sheer frustration and the pain of exclusion.I wanted so much to be a part of the Royal Priesthood. I realised for myself that these feelings were definitely worse when I went forward for a blessing. For me that had something to do with a feeling of: so close, so far away. So some Sunday’s I used to just pray by myself instead. Our Priest understood and he was very supportive to me.

I believe, from my own experience and that of others, that what you feel is "normal"for Candidates and Catechumens but especially Candidates as they may have been receiving communion in their own traditions until recently. Think it possible that some of what you feel is actually from the other place - it is the devil trying to get you so mad that you drop out of RCIA in frustration. He would so love that if you give in.

Pray! Pray! Pray! Learn patience. Learn humility. Hang on in there. Pray quietly when you can but take a blessing too from time to time. When that great day comes and you receive FHC you will have learnt that the Holy Sacrifice of the Eucharist is never to be taken for granted and it is no mere trifle. I thank God everyday that I was made to wait until I was truly ready, truly prepared, and understood just how awesome and wondrous a thing is the Catholic Mass.

Btw. Ignore Miguel. RCC accepts one baptism from most all Christian Churches. Just produce the certificate! . Methodist is ‘safe’; I was baptised Church of England myself.

I would Like very much to think all of you for your responces to my request. I have come to know more and more the Love of god has he speaks thru all of you and I am trully grateful to be so Belssed.

All your advice and sugestions mean so much to me and have given me a New Strength and appreciation for the Blessed Sacrament.

I now feel a new warmth and loving patiance for Conformation.

God Bless each and everyone of you.

Here is a bit of consolation for you.

I was unable to receive my First Communion as a child because my father forbade it even though I had completed the classes. So, from age eight to age 21 when I finally received my first communion whenever I went to mass (which at times was in frequent at best) I had to remain sitting in the pews. I can tell you that your anticipation over the year will help make the Euchariast a large part of your life from here on out and I am sure that you will appreciate it as such.

thirsty4uolord, it is your increased understanding of The Eucharist that increases your desire for Him.
Because of 50 years of a very complicated life, I was in R.C.I.A. for almost 3 years before I could be Confirmed and recieve. I attended every R.C.I.A. session, Mass and did a lot of studing on my own. My desire for Christ was so intense by the last year, that I totally understand how you are feeling.
Be patient. Use the time to draw closer to God. On the glorious day of your 1st Eucharist, you will feel and hear the angels sing with joy. My Confirmation day was the most supreme day of my life and I hold it close to my heart.
