I’m in a Catholic sorority and one of my sisters is the youth minister at our local church. They’re having a lock-in and she’s recruiting us to help her out. The theme is Living a Holy Life. I’m giving a talk and I need some suggestions. It’s high-schoolers…

Any suggestions?

wow.

Okay, I think it would be great to start with the basics. Could you talk about how God has planted this holy hunger in our hearts that only He can fill? And, that our purpose is to know, love, and server Him? How do we know him? How do we love him? How do we serve him?

Use lots of stories–saints and personal.

Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati would be a great model.

God bless you. I’m sending up a prayer right now for good fruit from your talk. I’m sure it will be brilliant!

Maybe use a person experience… share your story of how “living a holy life” got you through a difficult situation…

Personal stories always seem to help make things more real for the audience…

When I was in high school and I went to youth group (it was protestant but conservative so sort of similar) this would’ve turned me off right away because I know all that already, it’s been pounded into me since I was six. Maybe touch upon this, bring it up in a “You all know this?” sort of way just to double check, but I wouldn’t have spend much time on it.

Now THIS! This would’ve been gold, like water. I was told to do God’s will and this was how I showed God I loved him and how I served him. Well…HOW do I know God’s will? That question plagued me bad and still does to an extent. If you could give a talk on how to do God’s will (Which will neccessarily lead to a Holy Life) then I would’ve been much more interested. Use references from the CCC and The Scriptures. Practical advice on what to do, that would’ve been really great to hear (Dress Modestly, give examples from scriptures as to why this is important, Mention why it’s especially important at Mass. Don’t use profanity, give some Bible verses why. Let them ask questions).

I agree to use the Saints as exampls of how to lead a Holy Life, and remind them that these saints are there for us, they can pray for us and root us on.

I find that there is much power in relating to Jesus as a family man.
Many people say that we are wrong addressing Mary as our mother. The last words on the cross that Jesus spoke to any human was “Woman take this man as your son, Man take this woman as your mother”. Because the Bible related to us as much as those there at the crucifiction, Jesus is talking to us.

Another ,is that if we take Jesus as our father and Mary as our mother then our love for our spiritual parents is how it should be.
that means that if we take spiritual parents, our love for EVERY person on earth is as our brother and sister. There will be no difference between loving one person than another.

Hope that that works as it has for me. Our priest gave me that when I told him that that was what I believed.
God bless:thumbsup:
