I Really Need Help With This Awful Sin!

I have been indulging in the sin of masterbaition and pornography, and I want to get rid of this horrible addiction. First I request that you pray for me, and I also have a few questions.
  1. Am I fully compatible for this sin even if it is an addiction. I feel it “pull” me throughout the day. Is it Mortal?
  2. If all of the times I have done this are mortal… Then how do I tell the priest. I won’t give a specific number, but it is large and embarrassing.
    3.What is the best way to battle this awful sin, and how do I get rid of it forever.

God bless you for your sincerity and strong desire to overcome a difficult addiction, and yes, you do need answers, as scientists have demonstrated that porn addiction lights up the same parts of the brain as drug addiction, so you need not just prayer, but a plan of action. With God’s grace and your effects , grace will prevail. The addiction can affect degree of culpability, guilt, can lessen it to a degree according to the catechism, but not the necessity to work to overcome it.

May I suggest that you take some of your questions over to a sub-forum where no one is likely to remind us that we’re not supposed to give advice in Prayer intentions?

I praise God that you even asked these questions. That’s a step in the right direction. I can’t offer any answers to questions 1 and 2 because I don’t believe in mortal sins (I’m not a catholic). Firstly, every morning, ask the Lord to help you. Your prayer life needs to be intense. Secondly, control your gaze. Don’t look at girls unless you have to. Don’t look at billboards, commercials or magazine ads. Thirdly, try to fast.

Lastly, do something that will occupy your time, so that you won’t spend time alone with your computer. You’re not likely to view pornography when you’re going for a jog or mowing your neighbor’s lawn.

I’m praying for you.
