I tried to attach a picture of the letter that came with the relic, but I was unable to so I will try and type in what the wording is (Please be aware that I may make a few mistakes).

In quorum fidem has litteras manu nostra subscriptas sigilloque Postulationis munitas dedimus.

If anyone could translate this for me I would be very grateful 😃
(I could read your attached image of the letter just fine – The image of the relic itself was too blurred however)

A rough and quick translation:
TO ALL to whom this letter is presented for inspection we swear and testify, in our presence these were retained from the authentic Remains, a portion taken *from the clothes *of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus, Virgin and Doctor of the Church, which we have set in a round metal case, secured under glass, with a red silken thread and sealed by our insignia. To the truth of these we set our hand and the seal of the Postulator’s office to this letter.

Many, many thanks 😃

According to Canon Law 1190, the Catholic Church forbids the buying or selling or giving of relics without the specific permission of Rome. There are many fake relics on the internet where people request a “donation” or offer to sell one. If the relic is real, the Church should be consulted about what to do with it.:o 🤷

:twocents: I think your interpretation of Canon 1190.2 is over broad. I Am Not A Canon Lawyer, but it would appear the competent legislators agree. 🤷 :twocents:

Can. 1190 §1 It is absolutely wrong to sell sacred relics.

While it is wrong to sell them, in cases where people who have somehow acquired them and cannot be persuaded to let go of them without a fee of some sort, I know of no judgement on whether it is OK or not to then rescue the relics.

I believe that, last I read, the person in charge of the International Crusade for Holy Relics (that is an organization to preserving and recovering them), believed it was a case of prudential judgement.

One would not want to foster the business of their selling, but one would also not want the relic to remain in the hands of someone who would sell them in the first place.

Ah yes, I believe what I have written is still accurate, here is the Crusade’s website.

All of the relics I have I have not paid for, they have been given to me as a gift.
